Size of the doorway

During the repair or redevelopment of the apartment you can face the problem of how to change the size of the doorway. At first glance this is not so easy, but if you know simple rules, then it's easy to do it yourself!

If you want to install the interior doors yourself, or simply understand the size of the doorway in your room, you just need to measure the width and height of the box.

It is worth knowing and remembering that there are standard sizes of doors and typical sizes of doorways. There are several of them (height x width is indicated):

Accordingly, the minimum size of the doorway is 203 cm x 86 cm, although in the handbooks for architects it is written that the width should be 76 cm (for a moving person). Firms engaged in creating custom-made and installing doors, offer such dimensions (indicated width x height): 650mm x 1940mm; 700mm x 1960mm; 700mm x 2060mm, etc. The maximum suggested size is 1000mm x 2160mm.

How to reduce the width of the doorway?

Next, consider how to reduce the doorway. In order to do this in the manner described below, the wall should have a thick layer of plaster with a gypsum plasterboard sheet and even a little more.

  1. From the side where we will reduce the width, remove the plaster.
  2. For convenience, draw a line of walls.
  3. Draw a vertical line using a basic vertical is more difficult than a laser, but this method can also be used.
  4. Measure from the lines of walls on the floor and on the crosspiece the same distance and note that it was clearly visible.
  5. Draw a perpendicular line using a square. This line will be the end of the opening. The same thing needs to be done at the top.
  6. Attach the profile to the top and to the floor by marking.
  7. Place on the wall, where the plasterboard will be glued, primed and dried. Glue the plasterboard, applying glue on the wall. The rule is to press down the plasterboard walls to fix them well.
  8. The free part of the sides of the slope of the opening is well cemented with glue.
  9. We insert the load-bearing profiles in the previously bolted start profiles.
  10. On the escarpment of the opening, fix the plasterboard and cover all the cracks with plaster.

How to align and expand the doorway?

If you need to align the doorway - an ideal assistant will be a puncher. It is necessary to take a long drill and, drawing an even line from the ceiling to the floor, drill holes in the wall a short distance from each other. Maximizing the wall, plaster the opening.

Expansion of the doorway follows the same pattern as the alignment of the opening. After removing the required distance with a perforator, knock the wall in order to prepare it as much as possible for applying the plaster.
