Paul on the loggia - what materials are better to use for practical finishing?

Carrying out repairs, you need to think about how to make a floor on the loggia, because it depends on it, whether it will be cold in the room, how it will become comfortable and what the final design will be. For finishing you can use many different materials.

Floor decoration on the loggia

If you plan to use the loggia as a full-fledged building, then it is important to provide good waterproofing, leveling, warming and finishing. The choice of materials for each stage depends on many factors: the design features of the loggia, the degree of insulation of other surfaces, the type of glazing, financial capacity and the expected temperature after the completion of all work. The flooring material on the loggia should fit into the chosen design of this small room.

Tile for a loggia on the floor

A popular finishing material is a tile that is safe, durable, hygienic, and yet it has an external appeal and simplicity in laying. Options for finishing the floor on the loggia implies the use of such tiles: ceramic, granite, clinker and cotto. You can apply different options for laying the tiles: diagonal and chess method, tile in the descent, "herringbone" and kaleidoscope. After warming, leveling and applying a primer, you can go on laying tiles:

  1. With the classic method, the floor on the loggia needs to be started from the far corner. On the back side, apply a special glue using a notched trowel. The composition should also be distributed on the floor.
  2. Press the tile to the floor and if necessary, align it, then tap the surface with the hammer handle, wrapping it with a rag.
  3. No matter porcelain on the floor of the loggia was laid, or another option, tiles between the seams lay special crosses, so that the seams were even. When the work is finished, wait for a couple of days until the glue is completely seized and grout using a rubber spatula. It will only be the next day to wipe everything dry.

Wooden floor on the loggia

Many people choose wood as a finishing because it has a long service life, is environmentally friendly, light and externally attractive. If you think about what to put on the floor on the loggia, then it's better to choose boards with a "groove-spike" lock. Often laying on the lag:

  1. After leveling the surface, first lay the heater, and on it secure the logs - boards 2-3 cm thick do it along the wall in which the door is located.
  2. After that, cut the boards and fasten them to the logs, connecting them together and nailing them into the end piece. From above can be opened with a varnish or paint with a paint.

Laminate on the loggia

Use this material only in rooms where the temperature does not fall below minus 5 ° C. It is important to carry out measures that exclude the possibility of condensate accumulation. It is mandatory to insulate and level the floor with a screed, since different hillocks will cause deformation. Finishing the loggia with a laminate can be done perpendicular and parallel to the windows, and even diagonally. There are a number of features:

  1. As the substrate can be used isolon, cork and expanded polystyrene. The last option is the most popular.
  2. It is important to leave gaps between the walls and panels when laying, which will allow the laminate to expand and contract with temperature changes.
  3. The panels are joined by a lock mechanism, by inserting one panel into the other at an angle and turning until it clicks.

Linoleum on the loggia

The choice of linoleum depends on what kind of insulation is used, and whether the floor will be installed. First, the surface is cleaned, then the insulation is laid and the surface is leveled. The floor on the loggia of linoleum is recommended to be laid on a building plywood, which is fixed with dowels in holes drilled with a perforator.

  1. The roll of linoleum needs to be deployed so that it is straightened, then the material is cut along the contour, adding 10-20 mm around the edges.
  2. After 10 hours, the final pruning is carried out and the linoleum is folded in half. On the plywood is applied a special glue, and carry out gluing, and then do also with the second half.
  3. Fastening around the edges is carried out with plastic skirting boards.

The floor in the loggia

The original version, thanks to which you can get a beautiful floor with different textures and drawings. You need to start with the laying of the insulation, roughing the screed (the insufficient level is filled with expanded clay and covered with a rough cement screed) and the heating system is then floored. All variants of the floors on the loggia imply preparation of the base, which is treated twice with a primer. Filling technology is:

  1. Pour the dry mixture with water and, using a mixer, bring the solution to a uniform consistency.
  2. Pour the finished mixture on the floor and distribute it evenly with a spatula. Note that you need to start from the edge and finish at the doorway. Using a squeegee with a roller, squeeze out possible air bubbles from the solution and level the floor.
  3. After 5 hours you can already walk on the floor on the loggia and check its horizontality. Allowed a difference of 1 mm to 1.5 m of the surface. If the flaws are too large, then grouting is carried out with cement mortar.

How to insulate the floor on the balcony?

To increase heat-saving properties, special heat-insulating materials are used. When making a choice, you should assess the technical condition of the loggia, the humidity level and the kind of coverage that will be used. To understand what is better to insulate the floor on the balcony, all options should be considered:

  1. Penofol. It is a soft insulation, which has two layers, and its thickness is 3-10 m. In most cases it is used as an additional insulation.
  2. Styrofoam. This hard insulation is a non-hygroscopic material, so you can additionally not use waterproofing films. There are different options, differing in thickness and density. Mount it is possible on logs and without them.
  3. Styrofoam. Unlike conventional foam, this material has a high density. Thanks to the groove-comb system it is possible to obtain a single web. The thickness can be 20-50 mm.
  4. Mineral wool. The floor on the loggia can be insulated with this material, but here it is important to arrange lags and rough floors. Mineral cotton wool can be laid into small cracks. It is sold in the form of a roll or mats. Using this material, it is important to additionally apply a special protection against moisture.

What is the warmest floor in the loggia?

For the organization of a warm floor, three main systems can be used:

  1. The most affordable is the water system. In this case, pipes are laid in the screed, in which water circulates from the central heating system. This option is not recommended for the loggia.
  2. Popular is the electric floor, where the main coolant is the cable, which heats up due to internal resistance. This is ideal for those who plan to make screed or lay tiles.
  3. The modern arrangement of the floor on the loggia is carried out with the help of a film infrared floor, which is powered by electricity. The principle of operation is based on the fact that the carbon paste, sealed in the film, emits UV rays. As a result, all the items are heated on the loggia. The film infrared floor is the easiest, and yet it does not require the construction of screeds and fills.
