Gable roof

The final stage in the construction of any building is the roof. This load-bearing structure takes on all external loads and evenly distributes them to walls and internal supports. Depending on the ramp, the roofs are tent, mansard, sledge, gable.

The design of the roof with two skates today is considered the most popular and uncomplicated in the performance for private housing construction. Such a roof consists of rafters, insulation, hydro and vapor insulation, pediments on both sides, a crate, which is attached to rafters and the finish coat. As materials for covering the gable roof, metal and natural tiles, wood, and bulk material are used.

Types of gable roofs

There are several types of gable roof trusses, which are used for private houses.

  1. Symmetrical or gable - standard gable roofs, consisting of two ramps, inclined to each other and connected in the upper part of the ridge. This is based on an isosceles triangle. The optimum angle for such a roof is 35-45 degrees. However, a place under such a roof can not be used for housing. The house of the symmetrical roof has a clear and simple design.
  2. Broken - gable roofs with slopes of a broken line: at the top such slopes are sloping, and at the bottom they have a sharp slope. The roof system of such roofs is more complicated than that of gable roofs. Like all gable roofs, broken lofts can withstand even strong gusts of wind, with them the snow falls quickly in the spring. And their rafter system allows to equip the attic with a dwelling premise with preliminary moisture proofing and warming. The height of the attic gable roof should be such that the space below it is at least 2.2 meters.
  3. Unbalanced - in such roofs the skate is made offset from the center of the roof . The attic space under such a roof is much smaller than under a broken one. But this design sometimes has a rather extravagant appearance.
  4. Multi-level gable roofs also look unusual. The skates in this version of the roof are not connected to each other, but are at different levels. The erection of such a complex construction can only be done by professionals in their field. Yes, and there is such a roof not cheap.
  5. Semihalmovye gable roofs - a variant of conventional gable, but it has its own feature: at the edges of the skates on such a roof there are chamfered elements. This design is also called Dutch. The process of constructing a semi-valley roof, as well as the previous one, is very laborious and complicated. And the material for this option will go a lot.

For gable roofs, the slope of the ramp is very important. For example, a roof with a shallow ramp is more suitable for a warm arid terrain. But if the region often rains, then you should choose a gable roof with a slope of stingrays to 60 degrees: so the water will soon drain from the roof. However, it should be remembered that on the roof, in which the angle of the ramp is large, the load from the wind will be stronger. Hence, in areas where strong winds are frequent, it is necessary to strengthen the lathing and rafters on such a roof or make it more flat.

Therefore, before you do the installation of the roof, you should make a detailed and careful calculation. In addition, depending on the slope of the ramp will depend on the choice of roofing material. For example, on a "sharper" roof it is better to use tiles.

With a correctly executed gable roof, it will look great not only one-story apartment house, but also a gazebo. Gable roof is suitable for baths and greenhouses.
