Kivach waterfall, Karelia

In size it is the second after the Rhine plain waterfall in Europe. Water here falls from a height of more than 10 meters. It is located on the river Suna in the heart of Karelia. Around the same is a reserve with the same name.

By its beauty, the Kivach waterfall is simply magnificent, its waters are pouring down with a monolithic powerful stream with a crash down, cliff-cliffed beaches. They form whirlpools, foam and a sea of ​​spray. The noise from this is simply enormous.

The reserve of 9 hectares in addition to the waterfall includes a dendrocollection, a monument to the soldiers who died on this territory, a museum of nature. For the convenience of tourists, there is a car park, canteens, toilets, descents to the waterfall, souvenir shops, gazebos, gazebos.

Waterfall White Poles, Karelia

The second name of the waterfall is Yukankoski. And this is the biggest waterfall in Karelia, its height is 19 meters. In addition, that it is the highest, it can be considered with confidence the most beautiful waterfall in Karelia. Its history begins with the time when the Finns built bridges here. It was they who later became the name of vertically falling water.

Paradoxically, he is not visited very often. The fact is that it's not quite convenient to get to it. From the highway here about 10 kilometers of forgotten by all roads, very broken, for which it is possible to drive only on the cross-country vehicle. At the very top of the waterfall there are rapids along which water makes its way before it rushes from a colossal height. And just 50 meters from the main waterfall there is a second one, smaller. Just the river Kulismajoki in front of the waterfalls diverges into 2 channels, which give birth to two waterfalls. And the second is in no way inferior to the main in pictoriality.

In summer the water level is low, so you can go down and swim under the streams of the waterfall - the sensations are magical. Nearby there is a small glade for parking and rest.

Ruskeal waterfalls, Karelia

To get to these waterfalls of Karelia, you need to focus on the settlement of Ruskeala (Sortavala district). There are waterfalls directly on the Tohmajoki River. They are perfectly visible from the road, and near there are equipped parking lots with gazebos for tourists and parking.

The number of waterfalls is 4, they are flat, their height is within 3-4 meters. These places are very popular and visited, thousands of tourists rest here every year.

The famous waterfalls are also due to the fact that fragments of the films "A Dawns Here Are Quiet" and "The Dark World" were shot here. There is even a dummy of a hut, built especially for filming.

In spring, when the water level in the river is high, the extremals happily pass waterfalls on kayaks and catamarans.

If you look at the Ruskeal waterfalls not from a viewing platform equipped for tourists, but to pass the river by car bridge and a little deeper into the forest along a barely noticeable path, you can approach them completely from the other side and see what is not visible from the tourist site.
