Attractions in Bulgaria

Architecture of Centuries. Types of mountain chains, worthy of Roerich's brush ... All this Bulgaria is a treasure of legends and a source of spiritual wisdom.

Varna

A small resort town in Bulgaria - Varna. Every quarter of the city is noteworthy: the Uspensky Cathedral, the Varna Archeological Museum, the Dolphinarium, the Sea Garden Park, the ruins of Roman baths (therma), the Monastery of Aladzha, the monument to General Adranik.

Every inhabitant of Varna can conduct an excursion with a detailed description of these historical monuments. We will go out of the city and come close to the village of Madara.

Madara Horseman

Only 10 km from Shumen, very close to the city of Vara. Before us is a steep rock. We rise to a height of 23 meters. Here he is - a rider. The full-size image emerges from the plane of the rock by about a third of the volume. Dimensions of the bas-relief - about 2.5 by 3 meters.

A regal profile, a posture, a helmet, a spear in the right hand. Proudly stands a horse, subject to the warrior's firm hand.

Who and when created a unique bas-relief - just do not know. According to one version, Khan Tervel was depicted on the rock, who ruled in those parts in the VIII century. According to another assumption, the relief is an image of a deity created by the Thracians. There is a theory according to which the age of the relief is older by two centuries and is depicted on it by the Slavic god.

One way or another, the impression of the bas-relief makes an indelible: height, absolutely sheer rock, time-honored artwork of an unknown master (or masters).

4 km from the bas-relief there is a monastery carved into the rock, a tomb of the 12th century and an equally ancient fortress.

Sofia

About the sights of the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia, you can write a book. Today this beautiful city with a rich history includes 250 monuments of annals and architecture. Almost all city tours begin at the walls of Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. The largest temple in Bulgaria, erected in memory of the thousands of Russian soldiers who died during the liberation of Bulgaria from the power of Turkey.

Many of Sophia's attractions are partly "Russian spirit": the Russian church, the Russian boulevard and the monument to Alexander II with the inscription "Tsar liberator" ...

For architects of architecture, it's worth visiting the Boyana Church - a monument with a truly Bulgarian origin dating back to the 11th-13th centuries. The purpose of the trip to the church will not only be architecture: in the rooms there are unique frescoes of an unknown artist.
