Genoese fortress in Sudak

This fortress is one of the central sights in Sudak. It was built over several centuries by the order of the Italians, from where it got its name. Later, at different times, the strongholds belonged to the Khazars, Byzantines, the Golden Horde and the Turks.

The Genoese fortress stands on an ancient coral reef and covers an area of ​​about 30 hectares. It has a unique strategic location, which at one time rescued its inhabitants: on one side, a deep moat has been dug, on the other there are mountains that slope vertically downward, and on both sides the citadel is reliably protected by defensive structures. They consist of the upper and lower tiers of defense, on which there are battle fortifications. One of them, known in Sudak as a maiden's tower, is named according to the legend of the daughter of a king who died in the name of her love for the poor shepherd. The city itself was located between defensive structures.

Cape Meganom

Far to the Black Sea is a rocky cape formed by rock formations - this is Cape Meganom. When traveling in the outskirts of Sudak, be sure to visit this six-hour ecological route. Botanical reserve "New World"

In the reserve grows many varieties of rare plants, including those listed in the Red Book. The air of the reserve is fresh and pleasant, as it is saturated with the flavors of needles and flowering plants.
