Hafragilsfoss waterfall

Iceland is a country of ice and flame, mysterious glaciers and fire-breathing volcanoes. This fabulous state attracts travelers from all over the world, its uniqueness and originality. The main "highlight" of this region is its amazing nature. Today we will tell about one of the four largest waterfalls, on the second largest river of Iceland - Jyokulsau-au-Fjödlüm.

What is interesting about the Hafragilsfoss waterfall?

The Hafragilsfoss waterfall is one of the most popular sights of Iceland, located in the territory of Vatnajökull National Park . Its height reaches 27 meters, and width - about 90. A deafening roar of water falling down is heard a kilometer away, which indicates the strength and power of this place.

Like other waterfalls on the river Jökülsau ay-Fjödlüm, Hafragilsfoss can be viewed from both sides, but experienced travelers note that it is easier to do this from the east. If you can not imagine your life without adventures and are not afraid to take risks, try to look at the "giant" from the west: on the way to the goal you are waiting for a few rather difficult ascents and crossing the rope ladder.

Regardless of the chosen method, be sure - you will have a great view of the waterfall and picturesque landscape, worthy of the best pages of geographical magazines.

How to get there?

As already mentioned, the waterfall Hafragilsfoss is a part of the Vatnayöküld National Park. You can get here only as part of the excursion group or independently, by renting a car. From Reykjavik, you should go south along Route 1, the distance from the capital to the park is about 365 kilometers.

Vatnayöküld is open to tourists all year round, so you can look at the waterfall at any time.
