Mountains of Nepal

Perhaps the most important asset of the small state of Nepal is its mountains. It is here that 8 of the world's highest mountain systems are located, out of 14, and even on the coat of arms of Nepal, Mount Everest is depicted.

Eight thousandths of Nepal

The relief of the country is mainly represented by mountains, with the height of most of them exceeding 8 thousand meters. The most famous peaks of the state are:

  1. Mount Everest (Jomolungma) is the highest in Nepal. Its highest point is located at an altitude of 8,848 m and is on the border of Nepal and China. The first travelers who conquered its peak, visited here in 1953.
  2. The Karakoram mountain system rises on the northern border of Nepal and Pakistan, its highest point is the top of the Chogori (K2), which is 8614 meters high, conquered in 1954. Ascent to the mountains of Nepal requires serious preparation, it is not uncommon for tourists to die.
  3. The peak of Kanchenjunga (8586 m), which is part of the mountain system of the Himalayas, rises on the border area between Nepal and India. There is another name for "Five treasures of great snows", since this mountain chain has five peaks.
  4. The Mahalangur-Himal range also refers to the Himalayas in Nepal. Its highest peak is the summit of Lhotse with a height of 8516 m. It is located on the border with China and differs from other eight-thousanders by a small number of trekking routes . The first conquerors of the peak were the Swiss alpinists Reiss and Luhsinger. The event occurred in 1956.
  5. Makalu is another peak of this range, whose height reaches 8485 m. Despite a relatively small "growth" in comparison with other mountains, Makalu is considered one of the most difficult for the ascent.
  6. The top of Cho Oyu in height at 8201 m is decorated with the mountain range of Jomolungma (Himalayas). Conquer the peak was in 1954.
  7. White Mountain or Dhaulagiri (8167 m) rises in the heart of Nepal and is also part of the Himalaya mountain system. It is considered one of the most late conquered, since the first expedition visited here in 1960.
  8. Mount Manaslu, which is 8156 m high, is another eight thousandth located in the Himalayas. Today more than a dozen tourist routes are laid to its summit, and the first travelers visited here in 1965.

Other Peaks of Nepal

In addition to the eight-thousand-strong giants, there are many other mountains in Nepal that also attract travelers from all over the world. It is interesting to know the names of these mountains of Nepal:

  1. Mount Kantega in Nepal reaches a mark of 6,779 m and is located in the north-east of the Himalayas mountain range. The top is otherwise called "Snowy saddle", since it is covered with age-old snows. The first ascent of Mount Kantega was completed in 1964.
  2. Mount Machapuchare in Nepal is an ornament of the Annapurna mountain massif in the Himalayas. Its other name - "Fish tail" - is explained by an unusual shape of the peak. The height of Machapuchare is 6,998 m. It is considered to be a sacred mountain in Nepal and is closed to climbing ascents. The only attempt to conquer the peak was in 1957, but the tourists did not manage to reach the summit.
  3. Mount Lobuche is located in the Himalayas near the Khumbu Glacier. Its height reaches 6,119 m. Conqueror of the summit is Lawrence Nilsson, who visited here in 1984.
  4. The Chulu Peak enters the Damodar-Himal mountain range . Its main peak has a height of 6584 m. German climbers, who climbed in 1955, conquered Chulu. Today commercial tours that are considered to be the safest are organized on the mountain.
  5. The peak of Cholatze is 6440 m high, also called Jobo Laptshan, submitted to climbers in 1982. The photos taken in the mountains of Nepal are incredibly beautiful.
