Bulldogs are species of the breed

A solid, phlegmatic, unflappable, but charming bulldog is considered one of the most recognizable breeds in the world thanks to a characteristic flat nose and wrinkled muzzle. Initially, bulldogs were bred specifically to participate in the persecution of animals, but in the modern world this bloody sport, fortunately, has lost its popularity. And the breed has remained, but over the years of breeding and crossing has undergone significant changes, and today there are many varieties of bulldogs in the world, but only three are recognized and the most popular breeds. What are the types of bulldogs and how do these breeds differ from each other and learn from this article.

English bulldog

This species of bulldogs is characterized by a low growth and a dense, stocky physique. With an increase of 50-55 cm, the English bulldog weighs an average of 22-25 kg. He is strong, has a characteristic flattened snout with droopy eyes and widely set hanging ears, and short, widely set paws. Color English bulldog can be different - from monophonic to motley, from white to brindle, red and black and other colors.

American Bulldog

The American bulldog is also chunky and strong, but much taller and larger than English. If the English Bulldog from the fighting dog turned into a decorative dog, then in the American almost all the original qualities of the breed were preserved - it is powerful, athletic, suitable for both protection and work in the pasture, and maintenance in the family, an excellent guard. It also differs by a smaller number of folds on the muzzle and a much longer tail length.

The color of American bulldogs, as a rule, is white with marks of reddish, yellowish brown and other colors. The standard weight of an American bulldog is 27-54.5 kg, and the height is 53-68.5 cm.

French Bulldog

The French bulldog can be called the younger brother of English. They are very similar in appearance, but the growth of bulldogs of this variety is 25-35 cm, and they weigh only 8-15 kg. At the same time they are muscular, compact and quite strong for their size. Like the English bulldogs, they have a very short tail.

The most distinctive features of the French bulldog - a steadfast, expressive look and ears, like that of bats - are standing, broad at the base and rounded at the tips.

Despite all the differences, the listed varieties of bulldogs have a very similar temperament - they are stubborn, but easy to learn, good-natured, friendly, loyal, love their family, and thanks to their restraint and the ability to endure pain are not dangerous to other animals and children.
