The volcano of Tonupa

Bolivia - an amazing country, a trip that will certainly bring you a lot of positive emotions. The natural wealth of the state can not be overemphasized, and the beauty of local landscapes can not be described in words at all. About one of the most interesting sights of Bolivia, we will talk further.

What is interesting about the volcano Tunupa?

According to one of the legends, a long time ago three volcanoes - Tonupa, Cusco and Kusina - were human beings. Tonupa was married to Kuska, but he, after the birth of the first child, fled with Kusina. There was no end and no edge to the grief of the inconsolable woman, and her tears, mixed with milk, flooded the entire desert. Indians Aymara, the indigenous inhabitants of Bolivia, believe that this is how the famous Uyuni solonchak was formed all over the world.

The height of Tonupa is 5432 m above sea level. To date, the volcano is not active, which makes it possible for many climbers and ordinary inhabitants to climb to its top. Experienced and well-trained travelers will be able to cover the entire distance in about 2 days, but beginners should be more careful: at any second you may be taken by surprise by the so-called mountain sickness and fear of heights, so you should stock up on all necessary medicines beforehand.

From the top of the volcano of Tonupa there is a fascinating view of the largest solonchak in the world. For the sake of this spectacle, it is worth going the whole way from beginning to end.
