How it all began?
Winnie Harlow (real name Shantel Brown-Young) was born in 1994 in Canada to a family of immigrants from Jamaica. Shortly after the birth of Chantelle, her father left the family, and the mother was educating the girl, a hairdresser by profession. At 4 years old babies found vitiligo - a disease in which pigment disappears in some areas of the skin, causing white spots on them. The causes of this disease, as well as methods to combat it, are still unknown.
From an early age, the girl was mocked and persecuted by her peers. Because of the white spots on her skin, she was given offensive nicknames, such as "cow" and "zebra". She could not withstand bullying, Chantelle changed schools many times, and eventually dropped out of school, never completing her education. For a long time the girl suffered from depression and was about to commit suicide, when a lucky chance intervened in her life. Famous top model Tyra Banks saw a photo of a girl on Facebook, and, delighted by the unusual appearance of the girl, invited her to her show "Top Model in American style." Having received the invitation, Shantel did not hesitate to collect her bags, bought a ticket and flied to Los Angeles.
In the show, she took only sixth place, but instantly acquired a frenzied popularity. She immediately received an offer from the Spanish brand Desigual, which made Chantelle his face.
After that, the model career developed rapidly. She was invited to shoot various magazines and brands. Also in the company with Zendai and Serena Williams, Chantelle starred in the visual album Beyonce Lemonade.
