Auckland Park

In Johannesburg not only picturesque parks, open-air museums and the most valuable exposition are concentrated, but also a complex of scientific institutions that unites one name - Oakland Park. This is a kind of "home" of a number of institutions of science, including private schools and the University of Johannesburg, located in the province of Gauteng.

What to see?

In this small town there are about 4 thousand people. Not far from it there are Richmond, Melville, Brixton, and also Westend.

Once this scientific area was founded by a New Zealander Sean Landau. It was he who gave her the name. It is interesting that her colorful landscapes reminded him of his homeland and, thus, the name Oakland Park arose.

No less interesting is the fact how the streets were named - in honor of places along the river Thames (Kingston, Richmond, Ditton, Twickenham and others).

In this town there is a racetrack and the most beautiful lake, picturesque beaches which will enchant every guest of Auckland Park.

To date, it is the home of a mixture of cultures and different nationalities. Here students, scientists, teachers live, and on the weekend here come the inhabitants of Johannesburg in order to enjoy the silence and stay away from civilization.
