Day of parachutist

Former Soviet, Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian professionals and amateur parachutists annually celebrate an unofficial celebration on July 26 - Parachutist Day, which is not established at the legislative level.

history of the holiday

On this day in the distant 1930, a group of pilots, led by B. Mukhortov, for the first time performed a series of parachute jumps from an airplane. Parachutes designed by Russian inventor Gleb Kotelnikov were used for this purpose. It was this eminent pilot who was the first in the world to issue a patent for the invention of a knapsack parachute of free action. This equipment was created since 1911 specifically for making jumps from paragliders of model RK-1. In 1926, the achievements of Kotelnikov were transferred to the government of the USSR, and in 1929 the parachute received the status of mandatory equipment for aeronautics and aviation.

From the forties of the last century, the active development of parachutism in Russia began. In 1931, Soviet paratroopers performed more than six hundred demonstration and training jumps. This enthusiasm was so popular with the inhabitants of the country that even in city parks there were installed towers for parachute jumping. Anyone could easily try their hand at this sport.

The modern holiday
