Fish Cockerel - care and content

Only 50 years ago we had Siamese males . Some of their captious nature attracts others, but nobody will argue with the beauty and grace of these fish.

Origin and features

Petushki came to us from South-East Asia. The habitual environment for them is silted water, poor in oxygen. At home they are better known under the name Betta, Siamese fighting fish, we have - like a cockerel. The breeding of individuals began in Siam (Thailand) as early as the end of the 19th century, spreading this breed very quickly all over the world.

Individuals can be of a variety of colors and shades: one-, two- and multi-color. Length of males reaches 5 cm, females are not so large. However, even such inexhaustible dimensions do not prevent to have an aggressive character. Cocks in Asia are very popular aquarium fights. The color of the males is an order of magnitude brighter, during the collision or courtship of the female, it becomes even more saturated. Breeding helped to make the tail and fins even longer and lush.

A feature of the "cock" is that, in addition to the gills, they also have a labyrinthine respiratory organ. In it, the blood is saturated with air swallowed by the mouth. That's why this breed is not so critical stay in the water, where the level of dissolved oxygen is lowered.

Aquarium fishes cockerel - features of maintenance and care

Petushkas do not require volume containers. Fry and spawn wonderfully in a 2-liter jar, an adult should preferably have at least 4 liters of water. If there are more than one males in one aquarium, make sure that only one male is among them, otherwise aggressive gambling can not be avoided. Not very well they get along with swordsmen, barbs, zebrafish. Females are more calm, so there should not be conflicts. The test for compatibility will be passed with neon iris, ototsinkljusami, minors, pecilia, befortii, tarakatumami.

The optimum water temperature for males is 18-25 degrees. Increased temperature improves metabolism in all fish, respectively, the duration of their life is reduced. Lowering the temperature to 14 degrees will bring your pet into hibernation. The bully can sink to the bottom and burrow into the ground. From this state it will exit as soon as the temperature regime is normalized.

This aquarium representative is very unpretentious to the quality of water. The recommended rigidity is 4-15, the acidity is 6-7.5. The presence of a filter and aeration is a secondary issue. If the cockerel has neighbors, you can not do without a filter. In addition to air saturation with oxygen, various layers of water are mixed, thus the temperature will be the same in both the upper part and the lower one.

Natural vegetation is welcome. It will saturate the liquid with oxygen, can not damage the fish while it swims. Sharp edges of artificial greens often damage the fins or the very body of the animal. In extreme cases, buy in the pet store plants from silk.

Replacement of water should be carried out once a week for small aquariums and once every two weeks for overall tanks with a partial water change every 3-4 days. Every time you completely replace the fluid, do not forget to clean the walls and corners of the aquarium from the plaque, use a siphon. Before pouring new water, heat it to 20-22 degrees. For water inhabitants, soft water is better suited, but not distilled.

Correct care for fish frogs includes a diverse diet: suitable for dry, lively and frozen. As a living let's beloved artemia, earthworms, pipe growers, bloodworms. Granulated feed does not so much "dilute the dirt" in the aquarium. Frozen food is represented by moth, artemia, daphnia, and tulip. Individuals of this breed can eat small snails, leave the ampulla without tendrils. These fish need to be fed in small portions 1-2 times a day.

As you can see, the cockerel is unpretentious, the conditions of detention are very simple. Enjoy the beauty of these fish in your aquarium!
