Fisherman's Day

Professional and beloved by many, the July holiday is Fisherman's Day, traditionally celebrated on the second Sunday. The date of the celebration of the Day of the Fisher was established in 1968 by the Decree of the Presidium of the USSR Armed Forces.

history of the holiday

The advent of Fisherman's Day in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and a number of other post-Soviet countries is due to the great development of fishing in the times of the USSR. Every year, the number of amateur fishermen increased, and the Soviet authorities actively dealt with the problems of piracy and smuggling in the fishing industry. In addition, there were a great many natural reservoirs in the USSR, so this fishery could not develop. In addition, in a number of Soviet regions, fishing has always been considered the leading industrial sector, and this occupation was chosen by local residents. With the passage of time, this holiday, which unites fishing labor collectives and amateur anglers, was born.

Traditions

On the Day of the Fisherman, competitions and various competitions for fishing, mostly amateur, are usually held. The jury determines the fisherman whose catch is the largest in weight, in size. There are also awards for the smallest fish caught during the contest.

On the day when Fisherman's Day is celebrated, not only men, but even children and women can be seen on water bodies. And this is not surprising, because fishing is an occupation that is not limited to sexual, age and social boundaries. After the collapse of the Union, a variety of thematic cards, souvenir products began to appear in large numbers.

This holiday in the seaside cities is celebrated not so much as professional, but as a family holiday. In the squares and stadiums, mass festivities are held. In the evenings concerts are held, where guest artists perform, and costumed performances.

World Fisherman's Day

Since 1985, according to a decision taken in 1984 by the International Conference on the Development and Regulation of Fisheries, held in Rome, the World Fisherman's Day (or World Fisheries Day) has been established.

Fishing for a long time is considered the most popular hobby of mankind. Everyone who happened to visit at least once with a fishing rod on the pond, enjoyed the joy of communicating with the virgin nature, amazing cleanliness. And the day when the first fish was caught, no one will ever forget! After all, only really enthusiastic people can survive for days in the thickets of reeds, freeze and wet under the prolonged rain or go fishing in the winter .
