International Day of Happiness

Everyone understands happiness in their own way. For some, this is the realization of oneself in a profession or work, others will be happy in a relaxed family life. Someone will be happy, taking care of their health or helping others. Some people see happiness in their financial well-being, while others may think that money is not happiness. But many thinkers believe that a happy person is one who lives in absolute agreement with himself.

In order to draw the attention of all people to the satisfaction with life and to support their desire to be happy, a special holiday was established-an international day of happiness. Let's find out what its history is and on what date will the international day of happiness be celebrated?

How to celebrate the International Day of Happiness?

The international day of happiness was established in the summer of 2012 at a meeting of the UN General Assembly. This proposal was introduced by representatives of a small mountainous state - the Kingdom of Bhutan, whose inhabitants are considered the happiest people in the world. All member states of this organization supported the establishment of such a holiday. As it turned out, this decision found wide support throughout the society. It was decided to celebrate the international day of happiness every year on the day of the spring equinox on March 20. These founders of the holiday wanted to emphasize that we all have the same rights to a happy life.

To celebrate the day of happiness, the idea was put forward that one should support the pursuit of happiness in every person on the planet. After all, by and large, the whole meaning of our life is happiness. At the same time, the UN Secretary-General, in his address to the governments of all states of the world, stated that in our difficult times the establishment of a holiday of happiness is a great opportunity to declare loudly that the center of attention of all mankind should be peace, joy and well-being of people. And to achieve this, it is necessary to eradicate poverty, reduce social inequality and protect our planet. At the same time, the desire to achieve happiness must be not only for every person, but for a whole society.

An important role, according to the UN, in building a truly happy society is played by its balanced, equitable and all-encompassing economic development. This will improve the standard of living in all countries. In addition, in order to achieve a happy life on the whole Earth, economic development must be supported by various environmental and social programs. After all, only in a country where rights and freedoms are protected, there is no poverty, and people feel safe, each person can succeed, create a strong family, have children and be happy .

In those countries that decided to celebrate the International Day of Happiness, various educational activities are held on this day. These are seminars and conferences, flash mobs and various actions on the topic of happiness. Many public figures and charitable foundations take part in this celebration. Philosophers, psychologists and physiologists conduct lectures and trainings. Scientists and theologians present various studies and even books that are devoted to the notion of happiness.

At all events in honor of the day of happiness, a positive and optimistic attitude of each person to life and those around them is preached. Measures are proposed to improve the whole of our society, and proposals are being put forward to improve the living conditions of people. In many educational institutions on March 20 there are classes devoted to the theme of happiness.

The day of happiness is an optimistic, bright and very young holiday. But a little time will pass, and it will have its own interesting traditions.
