Halle Berry - the only dark-skinned actress who received the statuette "Oscar"!

It's been 15 years since the dark-haired beauty Holly Berry received the Oscar statuette in the nomination "Best Actress" for her role in the movie "Monster Ball". But another thing is remarkable, the actress became the first and for today the only African-American woman who was honored and recognized her talent! On the eve of the Cannes Lions festival Variety magazine published an interview with Halle Berry and talked about her directorial plans and discrimination against black actors.

Notable for the Berry Award "Oscar"

The Oscar award last year garnered an unprecedented number of critical accusations from actors and filmmakers, among the complaints, in the first place, was the accusation of discrimination against actors with dark skin color and a prejudiced attitude toward the directorial work of black artists.

Sitting in the hall and watching the reward, I caught myself thinking that I did not fully understand the importance of my statuette! It seemed to me then that it was a breakthrough. But in fact, it was just a small step to recognize me as an actress, but no more. In addition to me, there were eight other great actresses with dark skin who claimed the title "Best Actress", but none of them got attention.

After a public resonance, a revolution took place in the ranks of the cinema: 774 new members will be admitted to the ranks of artists and academies this year and more than 200 of them are African-Americans!

I rethought my award and consulted a lot with my friends, representatives of the film academy, the organizers of the award. For today, I want to leave an acting career and realize myself in directing. This is a risky attempt, I know, but I want to be among the first to show that black people are able to create a good movie worthy of an Oscar. Each of us has a chance to show our talents, another question, will they let us to Hollywood Olympus. In any case, African Americans should not be afraid to try themselves in creative professions and be realized in the film industry.
