Mixer on the side of the bathtub

Human thought does not stand still and every day there are more and more new products that make our life more comfortable. Do not avoid the progress of the party and an area such as plumbing, where in recent years there have been a lot of adaptations that turn the everyday process of washing into a real holiday of the soul and body . About one of them, namely a cascade mixer, built in on the side of the bath and will be discussed in our article.

Bathtub with mixer on board - pros and cons

Until recently, a faucet in the bathroom it was decided to install only one, fixing it on the wall in such a way that when turning the gander they could be used both in the bathtub and in the washbasin. With the growth of general welfare, this order has remained in the past, and it was replaced by two separate mixers - a bathtub and a washbasin, respectively. Moreover, the mixers, which are fixed to the wall, were left in the past. They were replaced by the so-called "cascade" mixers, mounted on the side of the bath and allowing in a matter of minutes to collect it entirely.

The main advantage of cascade mixers can be called their excellent design. Compared to conventional models, in which all the elements are visible, the mixers built into the bathtub look very elegant. The second advantage, which saves a lot of time and nerves - is a high throughput with minimal amount of splashes.

But, in addition to the advantages, built-in faucets also have significant drawbacks, also due to the peculiarities of their installation. It is a question of the rapid wear of the hose connecting the mixer with the shower head. If the hose of a conventional mixer is capable of withstanding up to two years of operation, then it will be necessary to replace it in a model mounted on the board after another one and a half to three months.

Installing the mixer on the side of the bathtub

So, it is decided - we will install the mixer on the side of the bath. In this case, two options are possible, the first of which is to purchase a bath with holes already marked for the mixer. If you change the bath is not included in your plans, then you will have to make holes yourself. But this option is only realized when fixing the mixer on the side of the acrylic bath, as on other types of baths, holes without chips can be done only in the factory.

For self-piercing the holes for the mixer you will need the following set of tools: electric drill or perforator with a crown mill, wrench, screwdriver and marker. Also, when installing the mixer, you can not do without a pakli or FUM tape.

Let's get to work:

  1. We choose a place for the installation of the mixer. This should be guided not only by aesthetic considerations, but also remember that all elements of the design should be free access for repair or replacement.
  2. We mark holes on the side of the bath for the installation of all the elements of the mixer and we make them with a drill or perforator.
  3. We install the mixer elements on the side of the bath, not forgetting the gaskets that come with them.
  4. Securely attach the mixer to the bathtub, using special fixing nuts. If it is a question of installing a single-lever mixer on the bathtub, then a stud must be attached to it from the underside. From above on a hairpin a steel half-washer is put on, through which the mixer is then screwed to the board.
  5. After all the elements of the mixer take their place on the bath, it must be connected with water. This is done with the help of special flexible hoses.
  6. After that, we check the mixer for leakage and, if necessary, seal the connections with a pakli or FUM tape.
