Mount Kailas, Tibet

In one of the hard-to-reach areas of Tibet is a mountain range called Kailas. Here, in the Trans-Himalayan mountain system, there is the Kailas mountain - one of the most unusual peaks in the world. The fact is that it is surrounded by an atmosphere of secrecy, which will be discussed below. The main facts about Mount Kailas in Tibet are as follows.

Mount Kailas in Tibet - basic information

In the ancient Tibetan books it is told about the "precious snow mountain", which in the translation into Tibetan language sounds like Kang Rinpoche. The Chinese call the mountain Gandisishan, and in the Tibetan tradition Bon - Yundrung Gutseg. In the European countries, the name Kailas is generally accepted, under which this mountain is known to us.

Kailas is the highest mountain in this area, but it stands out not only for its height. Its shape is unusual with four facets that correspond to the sides of the world. The top of the mountain is crowned with a snow cap all year round, giving Kailas an even more mystical look.

Four large rivers flow around the Kailas mountain range. These are Karnali, Indus, Barkhmaputra and Sutlej. Hindu mythology says that it is from the sacred Kailas mountain that all these rivers originate. In fact, this is not entirely true: the mountain streams from the Kailas glaciers form the Lake Rakshas Tal, from which only the Satlage River begins.

Legends and mysteries of the sacred mountain Kailash

Many mysteries surround this unusual Tibetan mountain. Even its very location makes the mountain unassailable. Surprisingly, so far this peak, one of the few in the world, remains unconquered. This is largely due to the views of ancient Eastern religions. For example, the Hindus consider Mount Kailas the abode of the god Shiva, and therefore the path of mortals there is allegedly ordered. Buddhists think that the Buddha was here in one of his reincarnations, and they make annual trips to Kailas. Also, the mountain is revered by the followers of two other religions - Jainists and adherents of the Bon tradition. Another version says that Kailas has created a certain highly developed civilization, so it looks like a giant pyramid. Be that as it may, but to our time, the foot of a man has not yet set foot on the top of Mount Kailash. In our time there have been several such attempts. Italian Reinhold Messner and a whole expedition of Spanish climbers wanted to conquer this summit, but they failed because of the protest of thousands of pilgrims who blocked their way.

Surrounded by the secret and the height of Kailash. In local beliefs it is considered that it is equal to 6666 m, no more and no less. The exact same number can not be calculated for two reasons - first, because of the different measurement systems, and secondly, because of the continuous growth of young Tibetan mountains.

Kailash swastika is one of the most notorious riddles of the mountain. It represents a giant vertical crack in the southern part of Kailash. Approximately in the middle, it intersects horizontally and forms a cross. During sunset, the shadows of the rocks lie in such a way that the cross turns into a swastika. Among the believers, disputes are still going on, whether it is accidental (the crack was formed by an earthquake) or a sign from above.

And, probably, the most incomprehensible mystery of Mount Kailas is the extremely fast aging of the human body, located near it. Accelerated growth of hair and nails in any person near the mountain suggests that the time here runs quite a different pace.

And the last, no less surprising miracle is the sarcophagus of Nandu, connected with the mountain Kailas by a tunnel. Scientists confirm that the sarcophagus is hollow inside, as well as some parts of the mountain itself. According to legend, in a sarcophagus are in a state of deepest meditation Buddha, Krishna, Jesus, Confucius and other greatest prophets of all religions, waiting for the end of the world.
