Proginova is one of the drugs often prescribed in preparation for IVF. Its main active component is estradiol, a synthetic analogue of the ovarian hormone estrogen. This substance is responsible for many of the most important processes that occur in the body of a woman. It normalizes the course of the menstrual cycle, promotes proper metabolism, affects the state of the central nervous system, reduces the risk of developing atherosclerosis. But most importantly - estrogen plays an important role in the ability of a woman to become a mother.
What is the purpose of the drug proginova?
Gynecologists and specialists of reproductive health centers often prescribe the drug proginova in the preliminary stage of IVF to prepare the organism of the future mother for pregnancy.
In many cases, pregnancy does not occur due to an underdeveloped endometrium. Endometrium is a layer of cells lining the uterus into which a fertilized egg is implanted. Normally, before ovulation, it can reach a thickness of 7-10 mm. However, in some women the thickness of the endometrium does not exceed 4-5 mm, which means that the fetal egg can not gain a foothold in the uterus and pregnancy will not occur.
Proginova stimulates the growth of the endometrium and increases the chances of success in planning pregnancy with IVF. After the procedure of in vitro fertilization, proginum is prescribed as a maintenance drug, so that the implanted cell is adopted.
In addition, progina is prescribed for women who underwent surgery to remove ovaries suffering from violations of the menstrual cycle. Use the drug and as a replacement hormone therapy during menopause, as well as for the prevention of osteoporosis after menopause.
Sometimes proginov's pills are prescribed during pregnancy, but only in two cases:
- with a low level of estrogens (taken only until the 8th week inclusive);
- with a delayed pregnancy, the weakness of labor.
How to drink tablets proginova?
Take the drug is simple enough. It is not necessary to calculate the dosage of Proginum, since one tablet already contains the maximum daily dose of the active substance. Packing is designed for one course (21 days). Take the drug one tablet a day, at the same time. The first dragee should be taken in the first 5 days of menstrual bleeding or on any day if there is no menstrual cycle.
Proginova drink one of the two schemes (appointed by the attending physician on an individual basis):
- Cyclic scheme: take one dragee for three weeks, then make a week-long break.
- Continuous scheme: within 21 days take the pills from one package, after which the next day they begin a new one.
As with any hormone preparation, proginova has a rule of the forgotten pill: if you missed the next appointment, you need to take the pills as soon as possible. The next tablet is taken at the usual time. With a delay between doses of more than 24 hours, uterine bleeding can develop.
Important! Do not take proginova with other medications based on estrogen.
If side effects occur (nausea and vomiting, uterine bleeding, headache, changes in vision and blood pressure, jaundice development), you should immediately stop taking the medication and seek medical advice.
Who is contraindicated with the drug proginova?
Since proginova - a hormonal drug, in no case should you take it yourself.
Remember that you should not take the drug, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, suffer from serious diseases of the liver and gallbladder, violations of fat metabolism, vaginal bleeding. Contraindications are also: estrogen-dependent malignant tumors, thromboembolism, pancreatic inflammation, lactase insufficiency and hypersensitivity to the drug.
