Sculpture "Ball"

The Vatican involuntarily engenders associations with deep faith, the foundations of Christian religion and morality, with painted cathedrals. And only after that it is remembered that the Vatican for the whole world is also the cradle of history, a collection of masterpieces of architecture and a treasure trove of cultural values of all time. And it is very important that the attention of the Pope periodically stops at the works of modern art, such as, for example, the sculpture "Shar", which now adorns St. Peter's Square in the Vatican.

The famous sculpture "Shar" for more than 25 years is located in the center of the Vatican in the courtyard of Pinnia , in translation, "the courtyard of Pine Shishka", since it was already decorated with a pine cone sculpture to "Shar".

The story of "Shar"

The Vatican administration acquired a modern sculpture in 1990 during the reign of Pope John Paul II. The ball is huge: its outer diameter is as much as 4 meters! The author's title of the work is "The Earth Ball".

The Philosophy of the Globe in the Vatican

The author of the famous sculpture is Italian Arnaldo Pomodoro. He was able to clearly embody the philosophy of the fate of mankind in two rotating spheres: a small living within a large.

The ball, installed on the popular Vatican Square, embodies the close interconnection of our universe, the planet Earth and man. Moreover, a small ball is our Earth, and the big one is the Universe. The beautiful, bright and shiny surface of the ball is disfigured by faults and black deep cracks, showing how much a person influences the world around him and how much this influence is destructive.

Approaching the ball closer, you can see your clear reflection in the mirror path and feel part of our imperfect fragile world.

Undoubtedly, there are several free popular hypotheses about irresistible sculpture. For example, a small ball is associated with a person, and a big one with a society, explaining the influence of all our actions on the consciousness and "quality" of this society. As always there were people who wanted to iron a bronze sculpture and make guesses of their secret desires, but soon the authorities of the Vatican stopped it, protecting the Golden Ball with a chain.
