One of the important Orthodox holidays is the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which falls on August 28. On this day it is customary to recall the earthly life and the transition of the Mother of God to heaven. Autumn is approaching and for the Slavs this feast was also marked by the end of the harvesting and in the villages a feast was held, after having consecrated the products in the temple. The ears and seeds were brought back to the church from a new harvest of bread to receive a blessing. On the table on this day must certainly be baked from a new flour. It was considered a great sin if a crumb fell from the table, and someone attacked it. In ancient times it was believed that on the day of the Assumption, the land is the birthday woman, therefore it is impossible to walk barefoot on it, and the violation of the prohibition was considered a sin .

- It was believed that on this day the sun goes to sleep, and it will not be warm this year.
- From the Assumption swallows begin to prepare for flight south.
