Siniyya


The island of Siniyya is located 1 km east of the city ​​of Umm al-Quwain . The length of the island is about 8 km, and its width reaches 4 km. Siniyya is of great historical significance, since people settled here 2000 years ago, and only many years later they moved to Umm al-Quwain.

Al Siniyya Nature Reserve

For tourists, Siniyya is a nature reserve located on the island of the same name. Here grow trees Gafa, mangrove trees and various exotic plants. In this natural park there are many different birds and animals, such as seagulls, herons, eagles, cormorants. The population of the cormorant Socotra includes about 15 thousand individuals, which makes the colony of these birds the third largest in the world. Cormorant Socotra inhabits only in the Persian Gulf, on the south-eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Not only on land, but also in water, there is a great variety of animal and plant life. There are green turtles, reef sharks, and oysters. The most amazing thing is that deer live on the territory of the reserve.

Archaeological finds

As a result of archaeological excavations, the remains of the ancient cities of Ad-Dur and Tel-Abrak were discovered. There were found towers, graves, ruins. According to artifacts, it can be assumed that the cities were founded over 2000 years ago. There are two towers on the island:

In Sinii found stone circles located on the west coast of the island. Each of them has a diameter of 1 to 2 m and is laid out of sea stones. Scientists suggest that these circles were used as furnaces for cooking.

On the east bank are the remains of dwellings. There were found pottery, in which, most likely, salt fish, and glazed pottery.
