Taman - attractions

A small rural village of Taman is located in the Temryuk district of the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation and has a very rich history. The city of Hermonassa, which was the first settlement on these lands, was founded by the ancient Greeks about 592 BC. e. In the 7th century, the city belonged to Byzantium, from the 8th to the 10th centuries it belonged to Khazaria. And from the end of X to XI century in place of Taman was the city of Tmutarakan, which was the capital of the ancient Tmutarakan Principality. Due to its ancient history, there are a lot of attractions in Taman.

Currently, the village is primarily a resort, where there are a large number of recreation centers and cozy hotels. The beach, the sea and the mild climate of the Taman peninsula attract many tourists to Taman. In this article we will talk about what to see in Taman and what monuments worth visiting.

House-Museum of M. Yu. Lermontov

The museum of the famous Russian poet is located in a hut with a courtyard, which were restored by historians according to the recollections of eyewitnesses. Unfortunately, the house has not survived to our day.

The Lermontov House-Museum in Taman is not well-kept. The exposition of the museum is represented by drawings and manuscripts of the novel "Taman", as well as paintings and autographs of the writer. In the garden in the neighborhood you can find a monument to M.Yu. Lermontov, who was inaugurated in honor of 170 years since the birth of the poet.

The Lermontov Museum can be called one of the most popular attractions of Taman. After all, some come to the village only in order to see with their own eyes where the story of the famous novel "The Hero of Our Time" began.

Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The church, founded in 1793 by Cossacks, is the first Orthodox Cossack church in the Kuban. The Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Taman has a rectangular shape. Its facade is decorated with columns and a small turret. For a long time the church was the only one in the district. It is curious that the services in the temple were held under the Soviet regime, during the occupation, and in the post-war period. In the 90 years the building of the temple was restored. And in 2001 new bells were cast for the church, the largest of which weighs 350 kg.

Monument to the first Zaporozhian settlers

This monument of Taman is an important historical landmark. It is dedicated to the first Zaporozhye Cossacks, who landed near Taman on August 25, 1792. During the next year, about 17,000 Cossacks resettled. Zaporozhets, who settled at Taman by the decree of Catherine II, who granted them these lands, guarded the Russian Empire from the south. The monument was erected in 1911. It is a statue of a Cossack with a banner in his hand and in traditional clothes, made of bronze.

Tuzla spit

Not far from Taman is the spit of Tuzla. On it for a long time there were fishing villages. Some time ago, the spit entirely adhered to the Taman Peninsula, but at the beginning of the last century, as a result of a strong storm, the braid blurred, and the island of Tuzla separated from it.

Currently, the scythe attracts not only fishermen, but also tourists. And this is not surprising, because almost all along the perimeter of the spit there are sandy beaches. However, it must be remembered that at the end of the spit the flow of water is very strong and bathing there can be life threatening. But near the bottom you can swim and sunbathe. Moreover, more recently, on the queue, cabins for changing clothes and toilets were put. And the beach itself was equipped with rescue towers and buoys in the sea. The main advantage of the spit is that if the sea is worried on one side of it, then on the opposite side the water will still be calm. Therefore, you can swim on the spit in almost all weather conditions.

In addition, Taman is famous for its mud volcanoes , which everyone must visit. It is worth noting that the most famous among them is the Hephaestus volcano .
