Waterproofing of the ground floor

Temperature changes and other aggressive climatic factors are a very serious load for such an important part of the construction structure as the ground floor . If you do not apply measures to protect it, then there is a risk of reducing the durability of construction, building drawdown, destruction of reinforcement, cracking of concrete blocks in the appearance of mold . The waterproofing of the basement floor by specially invited skilled workers or the implementation of this operation by one's own hands is the most important task in the construction of houses.

Now there are several types of waterproofing materials with different advantages. Those who are planning to build a new home, it is worth familiarizing with the methods for protecting the basement floors, so as not to make widespread and very gross errors. In this example, we will produce waterproofing works by the method of free laying of the roll material, when only the lap location is welded.

How to make a waterproofing of the basement floor?

  1. We begin to produce a waterproofing of the horizontal surface of the basement floor from the inside. First roll the roll material on the prepared plane. For the roll method, high-quality bitumen, polymer, synthetic films or ruberoid are suitable.
  2. It is necessary to ensure a demanding overlap along the longitudinal edges between the strips.
  3. Ensure that the end seams run between adjacent rolls to 0.5 m.
  4. Roll the roll from two sides to the center and overlay the overlap zone.
  5. This work is easily performed by an automatic welding machine using hot air.
  6. High-tech equipment is available only from specialized teams, at home most often the owners use them to weld joints with gas burners.
  7. The flame heats up the lower part of the upper roll and the upper part of the lower roll. We roll the canvas on ourselves, we make welding, at the same time we immediately press the material with the roller in the places of gluing. The film, which is present in the roll material, melts in the bituminous mass.
  8. The appearance of a small roller of molten bitumen is a normal phenomenon, it indicates the correct operation.
  9. It is necessary to provide an overlap of up to 120 mm at the edges and up to 150 mm along the ends of the rolls.
  10. Waterproofing of the vertical part of the basement floor on the outside or inside is complicated by the fact that it is necessary to additionally mechanically fasten the roll to the wall with tray holders.
  11. We screw the edges of the roll to the concrete.
  12. Further we unwind the material with the help of the block system and fasten the waterproofing with the tray holders to the vertical wall.
  13. Step by step from the bottom up we stack rolls and we weld edges.
  14. Do not forget to provide overlaps.
  15. After fixing, the plate fastener is covered by the next roll.
  16. Try to always ensure smooth fusing of rolls, so that there are no excess folds or waves on the surface.
  17. The internal and external waterproofing of the basement is finished.
