What does laminate grade mean?

High mechanical, heat and noise insulation characteristics made the laminate popular in the market of finishing materials. Spectacular floor is guaranteed!

Structure of the laminate board

Laminate board has 4 layers, the connection principle directly affects the quality of the product as a whole, including wear resistance, strength and service life. The lower base is not prone to deformations. Such a stabilizing layer adds to the hardness board. It is made from Kraft cardboard, which passes the preliminary impregnation with synthetic resin. To improve the soundproofing properties, the substrate is adhered.

The bearing part is represented by a plate of fiberboard. High density allows you to withstand significant and long loads, providing noise and thermal insulation. Grooves are ground in this layer.

Next comes the decorative finishing of the material - a paper base with a print under a stone, a tree. Melamine impregnation is provided. The surface of the product can be smooth (glossy, matte, semi-matt) and textured, that is, to imitate the "original" with the help of chamfers and protuberances. The performance characteristics largely depend on the quality of the top layer. In direct pressing (DPL technology), the lower and thicker tops are pressed together - the option is suitable for floor covering of household type.

More reliable is the high-pressure treatment method (HPL technology). The upper part (kraft-cardboard with a protected decorative layer) is pressed separately, the temperature reaches 140 degrees, the pressure level is 2.5 million kg. After that, the upper and lower workpieces are fastened together. In this way, high-class laminate is produced.

Which class of laminate is better?

The wear resistance class of a laminate for domestic use is denoted by the numerals 21, 22, 23 (the lower the index, the worse the strength of the product). The first option is suitable for auxiliary rooms, for example, a pantry, the rest are used for flooring of residential premises with low traffic, with proper care the material will last up to 4-5 years.

The commercial type has a mark of 31, 32, 33, 34. The reliability of the product is higher, the thickness of the flooring varies between 8-12 mm. For commercial premises with a relatively small load, there will be enough 31 classes, the service life - up to 6 years. For pavilions and offices with a medium passability, the "32" mark is appropriate. This is an excellent option for your home, if you want the floor covering to last about 15 years. Class 33, 34 - the most wear-resistant. Such a decoration is difficult to distinguish from a parquet board. The basis with the mark "34" is used in car dealerships, gyms and other premises with special operating conditions, it should not be used in a home environment.

The advantage of commercial laminate is the system of its assembly - the glueless locking system. Plates are quickly mounted, easily dismantled, that is, they can be "rearranged" in another room. Household coating is usually fastened with glue, which makes installation difficult, does not allow the use of plates again. For leveling an existing flooring, a substrate with a thickness of up to 5 mm is used.

Care for laminate of any class is very simple - wipe it with a damp cloth. Domestic models are especially afraid of water. The 21, 22 classes, moisture resistant - 23, 31, class of waterproof laminate - 32, 33, 34 belong to the number of non-moisture-resistant ones. Water impacts are afraid of joints, they can swell, which will cause the panels to play, and the attractiveness of the appearance will be lost. To solve this problem, especially when laying the laminate in the kitchen, you can use special water-repellent compounds for joints.
