Wooden windows with own hands

Many craftsmen, when making repairs, do not resort to the services of specialists, but they buy everything, for example, windows anyway. But in vain, because if you have certain knowledge and experience, an ordinary person can do it on their own. Making windows of wood with their own hands is a rather lengthy and time-consuming process. But you will be sure that there are windows of really ecologically clean material in front of you, and the cost of the window goes much lower.

How to make a window from a tree?

1. First of all, you need to choose wood. The most common breeds used to make wooden windows are pine and larch. They are light, easy to handle and have high performance properties. It is impossible to answer the question, from which tree windows are better. All have their own merits and demerits.

The wood must be dried well, so that the surface does not jar. The board must not have knots and deformed seats.

2. The second step is to make a box box. To connect its details follows motionless and durable. After all, the box is fixed in the window opening and the main load falls on it.

For joint use special grooves, smeared with carpentry glue, and wooden rods of at least 3 cm in length. It is necessary to make sure that the angle of 90 degrees is strictly observed. The box should not be placed close to the wall so that it is not deformed. Fix it with self-tapping screws, and the gap between it and the wall is filled with mounting foam.

3. Now they begin to prepare a three-layer bar for making the frame. It is necessary to give it a profile of the doors and frames, because the geometry of the window is very complicated.

Therefore, it is necessary to glue the bars and place them under the press. It is necessary to ensure that the fibers of the outer and inner layers lie in opposite directions.

4. To make the frame itself, you need to accurately observe the dimensions. Between it and the box should be a distance of 1-2 centimeters, otherwise the window will be badly closed. Saw the beams on the workpieces and cut the grooves to insert the glasses. It is very important to properly assemble the frame, especially carefully to observe the angle of 90 degrees.

Join the bar through spikes and grooves. Additional stability of the construction is attached with the help of self-tapping screws, which must be screwed so that their heads are drowned in the wood. It is also desirable to strengthen the frame with metal corners. Then the workpieces are ground, polished and varnished. To achieve a perfectly flat surface, this can be done several times.

5. Then proceed to insert the glass. The process of cutting them is very laborious and requires great accuracy and skill. Therefore, you can order finished glass to your size. The edges need to be polished with fine sandpaper. The grooves in the frame are filled with a sealant, and only then the glass is inserted.

Press it with a bead, which is fixed or thin nails, you can also use self-tapping screws. Twist them first in the middle, and then on the sides. Do not forget about the sealing with special silicone and rubber seals. You can also order ready-made double-glazed windows or even structures with a frame.

Decorating windows with a tree will be much easier and faster.

6. The next step is to mount the fittings. The hinges with which the frame is attached to the box and the handles for opening the window are mandatory elements. All the rest is optional. You can decorate your window the way you want.
7. At the last stage the final installation is carried out. Installing windows from a tree requires great care. It is necessary to repair all the cracks and plaster the walls.

The window is painted, but it is advisable to leave the fixing screws not painted over, otherwise you will not be able to remove it for repair.
