Sectional Garage Doors

The need to save space at the entrance to the garage , durability and ease of operation generated interest in such a variety as sectional garage doors. They are increasingly being chosen for the arrangement of new premises, and are also used to replace obsolete swing gates in the already constructed garages.

Types of sectional garage doors

As is already clear from the title, such gates consist of a certain number of sections. Usually they are made of metal profile or sandwich materials. Each section is fixed with special loops. With the help of a lifting mechanism, such gates move along two planes - walls and ceilings, fixing in the necessary position.

There are several types of garage doors, depending on various factors. Firstly, it is possible to distinguish gates that are opened mechanically with the help of human efforts, as well as automatic garage sectional doors, driven by a special electric drive installed inside the garage. Both types have their pros and cons. The first is easy to handle, durable, works under all conditions. However, opening and closing the mechanical gate can take unnecessary time, creates the need to leave the car, disrupts the comfort of the owner. On the other hand, the electric drive is not too easy to install, so the specialist will need help, it will not work, if there is no light in the house, such a gate will cost the owner more, and in the garage an additional space will be needed to accommodate the automatic hoisting mechanism. At the same time, automation guarantees comfort and convenience of use, as well as ease of handling and a fairly long service life.

The types of garage doors are distinguished and depending on the plane of the wing movement. Sectional gates most often move along the wall and ceiling, but there are structures that open so that the leaf moves along the two walls of the room. The latter option is not too common because it takes up a lot of space necessary inside the premises, and is also not so easy to operate.

It is also possible to divide the lifting garage sectional doors into views according to how the raised leaf under the ceiling is located. This is usually influenced by the height of the ceiling. If it is low, then the door sections are fixed under the doorway and the mechanism used for lifting. When the height of the ceilings in the garage allows, it is possible to arrange the placement above the doorway and inside the frame for lifting the gate.

Advantages and disadvantages of sectional doors

The main advantage of garage sectional gates is convenience in operation and space saving both inside and outside the room. In the open, such a gate is located under the ceiling, which does not require additional free space in front of the garage to open the doors. Gates of this type are quite light, and the mechanism easily comes into play, so that even a girl can easily open and close the garage. When using as a material for sections of sandwich panels, a high degree of heat savings is achieved. If you provide doors with insulating rubber gaskets between the gate and the wall, you can achieve maximum heat preservation, which is important if you intend to equip a heated garage. In such gates, it is possible to equip small windows, and also order sectional garage doors with a wicket opening inwards. Finally, the undeniable advantage of such gates is their magnificent appearance.

The main disadvantages of this design are the need to order and purchase sections in an already ready-made form, weak resistance to burglary, as well as the automatic drive device, the need for periodic maintenance.
