Yerevan - attractions

What is the main city of Armenia remarkable? Firstly, it is one of the few ancient cities in the world, relatively well preserved. This could not but affect the most interesting sights of Yerevan and its environs (by the way, the famous ski resort Tsakhkadzor is located nearby), which will be discussed in this article. Secondly, the city has an unusual mountainous terrain, and almost everywhere in it is visible Mount Ararat. This is exactly what was planned in accordance with the general layout of the building, compiled by architect A. Tamanyan back in 1924. Thirdly, the history of religious buildings in Yerevan is interesting, because it was Armenia that became one of the first Asian countries to accept Christianity. And fourthly, the famous hospitality of Yerevan can also be noted as one of the attractions of this hospitable city.

The city of Yerevan and its main attractions

The history of Yerevan begins in the distant 782 BC. It was then that by the order of King Argishti the First the Urartian fortress of Erebuni was built, which gave the name to the city. Up to now, a cuneiform tablet has come down that says about the name of the city. It is kept in the museum "Erebuni".

The first thing to visit is, of course, the main square of Yerevan, which is called "Republic Square". . There are several main administrative buildings of the city (Government of Armenia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Historical Museum, elite hotel Mariott Armenia and Main Post Office), but its main feature is not this. Often Yerevan is referred to as the Rose City, and the cause was the natural stone - pink tuff, from which many buildings in the central part of the city were built. "Republic Square". It has an unusual shape, and all the central streets depart from it with rays. In the center of the same square is a unique complex of singing fountains (similar to the one in Barcelona ), surprising tourists with its unusual light-music.

The big cascade is probably the most unusual and beautiful place in Yerevan. The cascade is a giant structure in the form of steps rising from below, from the center of the city, to its sleeping areas, located at an altitude of about 400 m above sea level. All this is decorated in the form of stairways with picturesque fountains. The cascade is not yet completed, the upper part of it is planned to pass into the observation deck of the park. And downstairs, at the very beginning of the cascade, is a monument to Tamanian, who contributed so much to the architecture of the Armenian capital.

One of the most picturesque sights in the capital of Armenia Yerevan is Victory Park (in Armenian Haghtanak). It is located high on the Nork highland, which offers a stunning panorama of the center of Yerevan. Also in the park there is a very beautiful pond, green alleys for walking, entertaining attractions and cafes. While in Yerevan's Akhtanak Park, visit the giant "Mother Armenia" monument and the eternal flame in memory of the victory in the Patriotic War.

Do not forget to visit the ruins of the ancient citadel of Erebuni. It was discovered relatively recently, only half a century ago, on the site of ancient city buildings. Previously, the fortress was a powerful defensive structure with palace and pagan religious buildings, surrounded by three rows of walls. On the cultural level of the development of Erebuni, we can judge from the remaining remains of frescoes and colorful murals of the fortress facades.

The religious buildings of Yerevan are also interesting for study. Among them you can see the basilica of St. Katogike, the monastery of St. Sargis, the church of St. Astvatsatsin. These are ancient temple structures that were destroyed for one reason or another, but are now restored in a modern way.

As for the museums in Yerevan, first of all it is worth visiting the Erebuni Museum, the Museum of History, the Museum of Sergei Parajanov, the State Art Gallery of Yerevan.
