Bast shoes with their own hands

Lapti is an excellent souvenir with a Slavic spirit, which can perform very useful functions. It can be attached to the wall as a convenient pocket for small things. Traditionally, for lapte weaving we use lime bast, harvested and processed in a certain way. But if you decide to make bast shoes with your own hands, then you can use both old newspapers and colorful pages of magazines. You can not wear such bast shoes, of course, but they are quite appropriate as an original decor. In our master class about weaving laptees with our own hands from newspaper tubes we will describe everything step by step.

We will need:

  1. Before weaving the bast shoes from paper, we need to prepare the tubes. To do this, use a pencil, winding a newspaper on it. Finish by gluing with glue and allow to dry. Then, carefully remove the tube from the pencil. Similarly, prepare another 14 tubes. Connect the three tubes by inserting them one into the other (glue the ends with glue). In total, you should get five elongated "working" tubes.
  2. And then the plait paper lapti according to the scheme, which is used for weaving the real bast shoes from the bast. First weave two tubes in pairs. Then we cut the upper ends of the tubes so that there are eight ends instead of four.
  3. Bending one by one all the ends of the tubes, weave the insole of the desired size.
  4. Fold the tubes in the toe portion up and continue to weave. Make sure that the tubes fit tightly to each other. If you have a shoe, use it.
  5. Similarly weave the heel part of the shoe. The ends of the paper tubes seem to be asking themselves in the right direction, going out on the toe. Then we bend them, turn them to the left and to the right in such a way that a straight line is obtained. At the same time a beautiful hem is formed. If the length of the tubes is insufficient, extend them by gluing them together. Lapot from paper tubes is ready!

To create this craft, you can use both monophonic and colored paper. Do not forget about the additional decor, which will make the bast shoes even more original. You can cover them with a layer of clear lacquer, decorate with a bow, ribbon or a bunch of dead wood. If you want to hang the bast shoes, then attach a decorative lace to them.

Such bast shoes will look great together in other sackcloths .
