Promotes the development of laryngitis smoking, alcohol abuse, occupational hazards, voice overstrain.

Symptoms of chronic laryngitis

In a person with chronic laryngitis, the following signs of the disease are observed:

Forms of chronic laryngitis

There are three main forms of the disease:

  1. Chronic catarrhal laryngitis. With this form, there is a violation of the local circulation in the larynx. There is redness, inflammation, puffiness of the larynx. There is hoarseness, difficulty in pronunciation. A periodic cough with sputum is characteristic. All these signs increase with exacerbation.
  2. Chronic hypertrophic (hyperplastic) laryngitis. This form is characterized by proliferation of the epithelium of the larynx. There is redness, swelling, the presence of traffic jams in the larynx, hoarseness or loss of voice, cough. There are two types of hypertrophic laryngitis: limited and diffuse. Limited appears in the form of separate changes in the mucosa - the emergence of nodules, tubercles. In diffuse laryngitis, a significant portion of the laryngeal mucosa undergoes a change. At the same time, the glands function changes and viscous mucus accumulates on the vocal cords.
  3. Chronic atrophic laryngitis is characterized by thinning and atrophy of the mucous membrane of the larynx. In this case, there is a perspiration in the throat, dry cough, hoarseness. The mucous membrane is covered with thick mucus, which sometimes dries up and forms crusts. Coughing can lead to bloody discharge.

Treatment of chronic laryngitis

First of all, it is necessary to exclude factors-irritants - cigarette smoke, dust, dry air, refuse hot and sharp products.

We recommend an absolute silence for about a week to ensure larynx rest. An alkaline drink (mineral water without gas) with milk is useful.

For the treatment of chronic laryngitis, medications and physiotherapy are prescribed. Apply anti-inflammatory drugs, emollients, antibiotics, hormonal drugs.

In hyperplastic form, the altered parts of the mucosa are removed surgically. Timely carrying out such an operation prevents the development of laryngeal cancer.

In atrophic form, inhalation therapy is widely used, and expectorants are prescribed. Also effective treatment with UHF inductothermy, darsonvalization.

Regardless of the degree of voice change, all those suffering from chronic laryngitis should consult a speech therapist. Even in the initial stages of the disease without changing the voice, in order to prevent the violation of the tone of the vocal cords, a speech therapist is needed.

The speech therapist works on correction of breathing, development of the correct respiratory support, which will not damage the voice apparatus. Also there are classes of physiotherapy exercises, neck massage, voice exercises. Only systematic and persistent work to restore the voice leads to a positive result.

Treatment of chronic laryngitis by home remedies

At home, the treatment can be supplemented or started with inhalations of essential oils of mint, eucalyptus, thyme, with decoctions of herbs - chamomile, St. John's wort, sage, etc. These same broths of herbs are useful to gargle. A good effect is giving a rinse with fresh potato juice.

Inside, you can take broths that have expectorant, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory properties. These are grasses such as mother-and-stepmother, high mullein, leaves of birch white, sage, calendula, etc.
