Botanical Garden in St. Petersburg

The Botanical Garden of Peter the Great in St. Petersburg is considered the center of Russian botanical science. In addition, he rightly bears the title of the oldest botanical garden in the country. History and Territory

Its history began in 1714, when the "Aptekarsky city" was opened, in which rare domestic and foreign medicinal plants were carefully grown. The garden was of great value for medicine and botanical science in general. In 1823, in its place was opened the Imperial Botanical Garden, which retained the layout to this day. On its territory there is a park and greenhouses. Their total area is approximately one hectare.

Garden collection

To date, the collection of the Botanical Garden has more than 80 thousand exhibits, and since the park was created over two centuries, it deservedly is considered an arboretum park.

One of the "sights" of the Botanical Garden is the sakura alley. Its area is quite large - two and a half kilometers. The alley is located in the central part of the park, so all visitors have the opportunity to watch this stunning and somewhere even magical spectacle - cherry blossom. An interesting fact is that for the Botanical Garden in St. Petersburg in Russia special frost resistant varieties were grown that could grow in the northern capital of the country. But these varieties are still beautiful flowering, which has a rich pink and red hue.

The Botanical Garden works six days a week, except Monday. A visit to the greenhouse is available every day, but there are some limitations:

  1. Children under three years of age are not allowed to enter.
  2. You can only visit the greenhouse with an excursion group.
  3. The greenhouse is open from 11-00 to 16-00.
