It is impossible to imagine a country plot without tomatoes growing on it. On the main methods of agro-technology of tomatoes in the open field and will be discussed in this article.

Growing tomatoes in the open: key moments

  1. For tomatoes to receive a maximum of sunlight, a place to plant them should be chosen well-lit.
  2. Before planting tomatoes in the open ground, the soil on the bed should necessarily be treated against the fungus with copper sulfate or copper chloride.
  3. Holes for landing should be excavated the day before you plant tomatoes in the ground. The distance between the holes must be maintained on the order of 30-50 cm, and the aisles should be left 50-70 cm. In each well it is necessary to fill with humus, superphosphate (150-200 g), potassium chloride (30 g), urea (30 g), wood ash 50 g). The contents of the wells are filled with water and mixed thoroughly.
  4. The day after preparing the holes, we plant tomatoes in the ground. If the tomato seedlings were grown in peat pots, then it is placed in a well with a pot. Do not be afraid that the pot walls will interfere with the normal development of the root system - after a while the peat will become wet. The day for planting seedlings is better to choose cloudy, or to plant it in the morning or evening, when the sun does not burn.
  5. Watering tomatoes in the open field also has its own subtleties. The first days after planting seedlings it is not watered, and then watered as necessary, but at least once a week. To stimulate the growth of the root system, irrigation must necessarily be deep, plentiful.
  6. In top dressing tomato bushes need in the early stages of development: starting from the 15th day after planting and with a frequency of every 10-15 days. Then the application of fertilizers must be stopped until the ovary is formed. Excessive application of nitrogen fertilizers can significantly slow the formation of ovaries.
  7. A prerequisite for a good harvest is the regular loosening of the soil and the destruction of weeds.
  8. Achieve a perfect harvest, while minimizing labor costs, will help mulch the soil . Soil under tomatoes can be covered with a layer of overgrown manure or peat. A perfect variant of mulch is mulch from chopped straw.
  9. Timely and competent garter of tomatoes in the open field is one of the important components of an excellent harvest. At first, the tied bushes will not break under the weight of the fruits, and secondly, it will be much more convenient to take care of them. As a dressing material, you can use old sheets, pantyhose or any other handy material of sufficient length, cut into strips 3 cm wide. As a support, stakes with a height of one to two meters are used. The stakes are buried in the ground for 25-30 cm at a distance of 5-10 cm from the bush. A strip of cloth wraps the trunk of the bush so as not to damage it, and tie it to the peg. It is not necessary to save and re-use the bandages for several years in a row - so you can infect tomatoes with phytophthora and other diseases.
