Museum of the Finnish mosaic

On the shores of Lake Ohrid in Albania is a small museum of the Ling mosaic, which is one of the most popular places in the country, which is loved by locals and visiting foreigners.

Lin village

The village of Lin is located in close proximity to the town of Pogradec and is characterized by beautiful nature with picturesque landscapes, stunning views, clean air. In ancient times the village was loved to visit the reigning people, in particular, the Roman emperor Justinian and members of his family. Later, approximately in the VI-VII centuries, a high hill over the village was decorated with a Christian basilica. Unknown artists painted it with unique mosaics, stylistically reminiscent of the creations of early Christian masters who worked in Ohrid , Durres and other cities of Albania .

What to see in the museum?

The walls and floor in the Museum of the Lina Mosaic depicted the stories from the Bible: the deeds of the apostles, ordinary people, natural phenomena. Surprisingly, despite the past centuries, many of them are quite well preserved. The concrete roof somewhat spoils the composition, which was erected much later to protect the basilica from the corrosive effects of the environment.

To the tourist on a note

Despite the popularity of the sight , it's not easy to get to it. Public transport in Albania has to wait for a long time, therefore, in order not to waste precious time, it is better to take a taxi. Rent a car is possible, but you will need a guide who will have to pay a certain amount.

The Museum of the Finnish mosaic in Albania is open for visits every day throughout the year. Working hours: from 08:00 to 16:00 hours, but it is better to make a preliminary call and negotiate with the management about the forthcoming excursion, for which, by the way, you do not have to pay.
