How the Eurythmics hit "Sweet Dreams" was created: drugs and depression - a brilliant cocktail

In the world of music there are such compositions that are going through their time and forever take place on the Olympus of super hits. One of these songs is Sweet Dreams from the band Eurythmics.

The other day former colleagues on this team Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox gave a frank interview to The Guardian, where they told about the inside of work on the hit. Musicians without hesitation called their offspring the main composition in the style of Britpop, which, however, was never understood.

As it turned out, during the work on the future hit, Mr. Stewart sat tight on amphetamines. It was not easy and Annie, because she suffered from prolonged depression. Their work on the song, they recalled as follows:

"We wanted to create something strange, experimental - an extraordinary electronic music. It seemed to us that we were doing something really wonderful. We were greatly disappointed by the reaction of the public to our creation. I remember that we were denied a record company, they said that the song would not be a single, because it did not have a ... chorus. But everything turned out differently: on the radio station in Cleveland the DJ started to put our music and people reacted very actively. He was constantly called up and asked to put our music back on. Thus, Sweet Dreams became a hit # 1 in the USA. "

Annie Lennox's Visions

The band's vocalist told how she remembers that stage in her life:

"I changed a lot of rented apartments and houses, it destroyed me, made me feel very unhappy. We managed to cope with this and survive, but it was damn difficult. I remember that I understood: we live in a world of dreams, far from reality. What we dream about will never happen. These are our experiences and have become the basis for Sweet Dreams. When we were working on the video, we decided to make bright images, because we knew it was a breakthrough, and it will remain in people's memory for a long time. In that video I have a very short haircut, I wear a suit. So, as if I were resisting clichés that are related to the image of the singer, I wanted to be as strong as Dave, equal to him. "
