It is equally often used in apartments, houses, schools and kindergartens, offices, etc. This building element has a breathing property, that is, it absorbs moisture and gives it to a room with dried air. In addition, drywall has a number of other properties that helped him to get the recognition of builders around the world.
The unlimited scope of its application included such an approach as the installation of tiles. Many do not know whether it is possible to put a tile on gypsum board. Builders note that the tile perfectly interacts with the gypsum structure, and all the difficulties are directly related to the sheets. To be more precise, one must take into account its technical essence.
How correctly to lay a tile?
With a detailed examination of the sheet, it can be understood that gypsum plasterboard is a structure made of gypsum of natural origin, pasted with cardboard. If you decide to fix the tiles on this material, it is better to buy a moisture resistant sheet. The complexity of the work is that the slab with the glue base is placed directly on the gypsum board, which can provoke a curvature of its plane. To avoid this problem, the following methods should be used:
- Guide rails . Leave between them 40-50 cm on a thin sheet of slats should be installed more often.
- Plaster mesh . It is fixed to the canvas with the help of emulsion of polyvinyl acetate (PVA). For auxiliary insurance, the grid can be secured with brackets.
- Priming the surface of the sheet . An important step before evenly laying the tile. Priming mixture is applied twice with a tooth scraper. Depending on the method of laying, the time between applications is 30-60 minutes.
The next stage will be the installation of tiles on the hypokarton base. Before you put the tile on the plasterboard, you should choose a solution. The usual cement-sand mixture will not work. It is better to use tile glue, designed for gypsum surfaces. To avoid defects in the preparation of glue, you must clearly follow all instructions.
Do not mix a large amount of the mixture at once. Ideal is the preparation of such a volume of solution, which is enough to install 1 sq.m. surface. For each square. meter you need to prepare a new portion of the glue.
Choice of tile laying scheme
Choose the installation method taking into account the total volume of the cladding plane. Calculate the number of horizontal rafts of the tile, then divide the length of the working surface by the width of the tile taking into account the distance of the gaps. If the result obtained exceeds the width of the entire tiles - the installation begins with the front of the wall, leading to a small tile in the corner. If the calculated value is less than half the tile, then it is better to start the installation from the center of the facing wall. In this case, the trimmed tile will have an equal width, which will avoid an inaccurate asymmetric masonry.
Tiles are laid on plasterboard in small portions in 3-4 rows, between which you must observe the hour break. After covering the entire wall, it is advisable to wait a while, so that the adhesive base is dried. As a rule, it takes a day. After drying, you can begin to rub the interlace stitches. After make another 24-hour break, after which apply a layer of varnish on the seams.
Many people ask themselves: do they put tiles in the toilet or bathroom on plasterboard? Answer: They put it, but only after processing the sheets with waterproofing. On joints of walls and on corners it is necessary to paste sealing tape. It will eliminate the dampness and soaking of the gypsum board base.
