Cathedral of Montevideo


The cathedral of Montevideo is the main Roman Catholic church in the city, the cathedral of the archdiocese of the capital of Uruguay . The attraction is a historical national monument. History of the Cathedral of Montevideo

The first records about the church date back to 1740. Previously, in its place was a small brick church. In 1790 the construction of the present building in the colonial neoclassical style began. He was consecrated in honor of the apostles James and Philip, patrons of the capital of Uruguay . The modern appearance of the temple was given to the talented architect Bernard Poncini.

1860 - the year of completion of the construction of the facade of the cathedral.
