How to sew curtains with your own hands - step by step instruction

Today we will try to sew by our own hands beautiful and rather simple curtains, which will suit both the kitchen and any other room. For work, we need, of course, a sewing machine. In addition, in advance, purchase a fabric that fits the size of your window. But, choosing a fabric, remember that the curtains should not only be beautiful, but also perfectly in harmony with the rest of the situation in your room.

If you decide to sew a long curtain, then you need to measure the distance from the ledge to the floor - this will be the length of your curtains. The curtain to the kitchen may be short - to the window sill or slightly below it. Do not forget about the allowances: for the upper part it is enough to leave 5 cm, but for the bottom of the curtains the allowance should be 20 cm.

In addition, if the curtain consists of two sliding halves, the width of one part should be approximately equal to the width of the window. In addition, it will be necessary to add 5 cm to the allowances on both sides of the canvas. So, the fabric is purchased, and now you can proceed directly to sewing curtains. To do this you will need another ruler, scissors, sewing pins, threads in the tone of the fabric, ironing board and iron.

  1. The first stage will be the opening of the fabric. To be more convenient to cut, you can fold the entire fabric along in half. Cutting the entire canvas into the required smooth cuts, turn it upside-down. We turn the edge of the fabric along the length by 2 cm and smooth it. Sometimes on the edge of the fabric there is a special information strip, along which it will be necessary to twist the cut.
  2. Now we turn the fabric 3 cm, iron it and puncture it with pins.
  3. We spread the cut along the entire length very close to the edge of the fabric. At the beginning and at the end of the cut, we make a double stitch to fix the thread.
  4. The same is done on the second side of the cut.
  5. Now we proceed to the lower part of the curtains. We lay the fabric of the wrong side up. We measure from the edge of the fabric 10 cm, turn and smooth.
  6. Then we turn the edge of the curtains another 10 cm, chop this edge with sewing pins.
  7. We spread the edge very close to the edge of the fabric.
  8. Similarly, we also sew the upper part of the curtains. To do this, turn the edge first by 2 cm, and then another 3 cm. Using an iron, iron the edge, puncture the pins and sew on the machine, trying to make a line as close as possible to the edge. Attach the ring with clips to the top of the curtains, making sure that the distance between the rings is about the same. By the way, such rings are very convenient, because they do not need to make loops.
  9. This is how the kitchen window, decorated with curtains sewn by itself, will look. As you can see, sewing curtains with your own hands is not so difficult. But how nice it will be to be in a room decorated with your own hands!
