Montenegro - monuments

On the Balkan Peninsula, you can meet many monuments dedicated to famous politicians, actors, heroes-liberators, fallen defenders, pioneers, etc. And Montenegro is no exception. It is difficult to say how many monuments are in Montenegro today. We will examine in more detail the main of them and start with those that show the cultural relationship between Russia and Montenegro:

  1. Monument to A.S. Pushkin (Podgorica). This sculpture is a kind of symbol of Russian-Montenegrin friendship and kinship of the Slavic peoples as a whole. The statue of the greatest Russian poet adorns the capital of the country. Architect of the monument to Pushkin in Montenegro - M. Corsi, the sculptor also made Alexander Taratynov. The grand opening of the sculptural composition took place in 2002. She depicts the poet together with his wife Natalia Goncharova, inspired by his creations. On the stone slab next to the monument is engraved an excerpt from the poem "Bonaparte and Montenegrins".
  2. Monument to V. Vysotsky (Podgorica). The sculpture is in a very picturesque place, where the river Moraca flows and two bridges - the Moscow and the Millennium . Monument to Vysotsky in Montenegro is very popular both with local residents, and with our compatriots who come on an excursion to the capital. As you know, the poet visited Montenegro twice - during the filming of the film in 1974 and as part of a tour in 1975. The sculpture of the poet is made of bronze and installed in Podgorica in 2004. It is a 5-meter figure of Vysotsky on a granite pedestal. On the monument is engraved an excerpt from the poem "Water filled with handfuls ...", which the author dedicated to Montenegro. Like the monument to Pushkin, this monument is a creation of the hands of the sculptor Alexander Taratynov.
  3. Monument to Yuri Gagarin ( Radovici ). This monument was installed very recently, on April 12, 2016, in honor of the 55th anniversary of the first manned spaceflight. The sculpture is located in the village of Radovici, in the Tivat community and is a bust of an astronaut. The author of the monument to Yuri Gagarin in Montenegro was the Moscow sculptor Vadim Kirillov, and the ideological inspirer and organizer of the installation and celebration of the jubilee date is the Slovenian Just Rugel.
  4. Monument to the liberators of Bar . The sculpture is dedicated to the heroes who defended their native lands. It is located not far from the building of the city post office of the New Bar. The monument is interesting because it is based on the remains and fragments of the architecture of the former city, among which you can find gravestones, coats of arms, gates and much more. For Montenegrins themselves, this monument symbolizes the prowess of the defenders of the homeland, the overthrow of the Turkish dictatorship and the establishment of the country's independence.
  5. Statue of "Dancer from Budva ". One of the most famous and touching monuments in Montenegro, and the entire Balkan Peninsula. The statue is made of bronze, set between the Mogren beach and the Old Town, surrounded by rocks. The sculptor is Gradimir Aleksich. In Budva, everyone knows the legend, according to which the girl was the bride of a sailor who went on a voyage, and went out every morning to see if he returned. Many years passed, she was waiting, but the ship with the bridegroom never landed on the shore. Figure Dancer symbolizes an example of true love, loyalty and self-sacrifice. The sculpture is called "Dancer from Budva", the locals usually say simply the Statue of the Ballerina. And all those who come here sincerely believe that the desire, conceived alongside the dancer, will certainly come true.
  6. Statue of Mother Teresa ( Ulcinj ). This is a small bronze sculpture, installed in Ulcin in front of the Hospital. Mother Theresa. Since 90% of Albanians live in this city, in many respects thanks to their compatriots the monument became known to the broad masses.
  7. Monument to King Nicola (Podgorica). Nikola Petrovich-Niegosh was king of Montenegro for over 50 years, beginning in 1860. It was thanks to his efforts to the beginning of the XX century that Montenegro, in terms of standard of living, eliminated the backlog from the developed European countries, and in 1910 was proclaimed a kingdom. The sculpture is made of bronze and is installed in the capital of the country.
  8. Monument to King Tvrtko I ( Herceg Novi ). This Bosnian king founded the fortified city of Herceg Novi in ​​the Adriatic Sea in 1382. The sculpture of the ruler is facing the sea, it seems as if he meets and blesses all ships arriving at the seaport of the city. Cast a monument in the capital of Croatia - Zagreb, the sculptor of the composition is Dragan Dimitrievich. This sculpture belongs to a rather massive number - at a height of 5.6 m it weighs 1.2 tons. Next to the monument, the king was installed an Austro-Hungarian cannon and anchors.
  9. Monument to Ivan Chernovich (Cetinje). The sculpture is dedicated to the founder of the cultural center of Montenegro - the city of Cetinje . It was established in 1982 in honor of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the city, on the square in front of the palace of King Nikola. The monument depicts Ivan with a sword and shield - symbols of protection and justice.
