Mustard as siderat

Mustard is a very useful plant and it has a lot of advantages over other cider cultures. She belongs to the cabbage family, so her closest relatives are cabbage, and also radish, radish , rutabaga. Knowing the relatives of a plant is necessary in order to understand, after which it is possible, and then you can not use mustard as a siderat.

Use of mustard on the plot

As a syderate, white mustard (English) grade is used, and also sizuyu (Russian). The use of mustard on the site is very large. It cleans the cultivated soils from weeds, helps to get rid of pests such as wireworm, slug, pea stalk. Also negatively affects plant diseases - late blight and potato scab.

Mustard promotes the improvement of soil, increases biomass at a high rate, thanks to which a lot of useful organic substances accumulate in the soil, which, with the help of soil inhabitants, turns into biohumus.

Also, the structure of the soil itself is improved - the roots of mustard loosen, drain, make it more breathable. In the ground, nitrogen is better retained - it does not leach.

Mustard is very winter hardy, and after the first frosts it lies under the snow on the soil and from the discharge of the siderates smoothly turns into mulch. So the soil does not freeze in winter.

Mustard-siderat - cultivation

When planting mustard like siderat: plant the plant can be all season. The amount of seed varies depending on the period.

So, usually, from the spring to the middle of August, 200-300 grams are sowed per one hundred square meters. And from the second half of August this amount is increased to 300-400 grams per hundred square meters. Such a density is needed to use the plant as a siderata. For other purposes, it is not so densely sown.

Mustard as a siderate is planted in the spring before planting the main crops, and in autumn, respectively, after harvesting. For the winter it is planted so that it protects the soil from frost. In addition, it will be loose in the spring and it will be easier to dig it. The roots of mustard grow to half a meter and the soil at this depth will loosen well.

Mustard is a one-year plant, completely unpretentious. Its seeds can germinate at a low temperature - at + 3 ° C, and shoots can withstand frosts up to -5 ° C. Experienced gardeners sow this plant and thus save their labor and time, in addition - they have an excellent harvest.
