The Riga Canal

What could be more beautiful than a leisurely walk on a boat along the river canal that flows through the magnificent Riga ? We strongly recommend that you drop all your business, forget about vanity and enjoy peace and quiet here.

general information

The Riga City Channel is a canal flowing in the center of Riga, encircling the Old Town . Flows out and flows into the river Daugava . The length of the canal is 3.2 km. Depth - from 1,5 to 2,5 m. Throughout the whole way you will sail under the 16th bridges, in which in the evening the illumination turns romantic.

If you go back a little to the past, then initially on the canal there was a fortress defensive moat and protective shafts. In 1857, the trees were removed, and the moats were partially covered. And now the Riga canal is a favorite place not only for city residents, but also for their guests.

The most popular water transport for walking along the canal is a walking wooden boat (8-13-17-19-local). Just think: one of them was built in 1907!

The duration of the walk will take about 1 hour. The interval between departures is 20-30 minutes. The season is open for visitors from April to October. Working hours: from 10:00 to 18:00.
