The Wallachian Open Air Museum

The Wallachian open-air museum is located in the town of Roznov pod Radhosh. This is the largest museum of its kind in the Czech Republic . It was created almost 100 years ago and is a showcase of the Wallachian culture of settlers from Romania. Exhibits of the museum are original residential and household buildings, objects of everyday life of the Wallachians and everything that has a direct bearing on their way of life and traditions.

Description

The Wallachian open-air museum has much in common with a real Moravian village of the 19th century. Therefore, those who first get acquainted with Czech culture , will be doubly interesting and informative. The territory is divided into three parts:

  1. Wooden town. A small village demonstrates Moravian architecture at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries. The most valuable objects are the original residential buildings that have been moved and restored. The interior in them fully corresponds to reality, and household items were once used by the Wallachians.
  2. Valley of mills. This is a new part of the museum, which was created to demonstrate agricultural technology and housekeeping skills. In the Valley of Mills you can see the working workshop of a real Vashish blacksmith. There are several copies of the mills used by the Wallachians in their time.
  3. Valašské legacy or the Wallachian village. This is the largest part of the museum. Having come here, tourists seem to move in time. There is no place for museum exhibits: here the real life is flowing. Houses, wells, rural buildings, gardens, bell tower - all this is used by the villagers. They are engaged in animal husbandry, grow vegetables and fruits. In this place, the life of the traditional Wallachian villages has been most accurately reconstructed.

In total, there are 60 architectural objects in the open-air museum of the Wallachian Museum.

Events in the Museum

During the excursion to the museum you can not only freely visit all the houses, but also participate in master classes in various crafts - from pottery to weaving. Also during the main holidays there are mass events and festivals:

  1. 4-6 August. At this time, the international festival of Slovak folklore is held, within the framework of which the Kingdom Championship on whipping butter is held in the museum. Also on the territory of the museum there is a concert on which people's Wallachian songs and melodies sound.
  2. 5th of December. On the eve of St. Nikolay's holiday in the Wooden Town many fun events for children and their parents are held. Those who succeed in contests will receive gifts.
  3. December 6-9 and December 11-15. These days in Valašský village there are events devoted to Christmas.
