The castle of Emnishte


In the central part of the Czech Republic , in the Benesov area, there is the castle of Jemniště (Zámek Jemniště). It has an uncomfortable location, so it is not very popular among tourists and researchers. Thanks to this fact, the structure was able to preserve its authenticity.

What is interesting about the palace?

The castle of Emnishte is built in the Rococo style, for the first time it was mentioned in the annals at the end of the XIV century. The building is surrounded by a picturesque park, which was designed by French designers. There are artificial ponds and luxurious fountains, openwork pavilions and elegant pavilions, pensive sculptures and figured trees, comfortable paths and a small zoo.

Currently, the castle Emnishte is residential. It is home to the descendants of the old noble family of the Czech Republic - Sternberg. Part of the building is reserved for the museum , in some halls, solemn events are held, for example, weddings, anniversaries, etc. In separate equipped rooms, tourists can stop.

History of the castle

The first owner of the palace is Pan-Tsimburg. After it, the owners of the fortress constantly changed and did not have time to monitor the condition of the structure. In 1717 he was acquired by Count Franz Adam. The ancient dilapidated building did not like the aristocrat, and he decided to build a new one.

The most famous master of the Czech Republic, Franz Maximilian Kanka, was engaged in architectural work. The construction of the castle Emnishte lasted 7 years, and a year later a chapel of St. Joseph was added to it. In 1754, the building was almost completely burnt, only the temple survived. The Count decided to restore the palace anew.

Description of sight

The castle is an elegant 2-storey building, decorated with sculptures by Lazar Widmann. On both sides of it there are service buildings (stables and barns) that connect with the main building at a right angle. Thus, they form the "honorable court".

From Prague to the palace, you can get on the highway number 3 and D1 / E65. The distance is about 55 km. On the route there are toll roads.
