Geneva - a city in Switzerland , where at every corner you will be tempted with exquisite showcases watch shops, which you can not resist. And it is not necessary, because the high quality of Swiss watchmaking is known throughout the world for more than a year. But apart from the watchrooms, there are a lot of interesting museums in Geneva , one of them is the Patek Philippe Museum, which will be discussed in this article.

About the creation of the museum

According to the president of the house Patek Philippe, the idea of creating such a museum was pursued by three generations of presidents at home. But the decision to build the museum was approved only in 1989, when the company turned 150 years old.

The main feature of the Museum of watches was its similarity to the timepiece, in which every detail is important and complements many other details. The "mechanism" of this museum has its own decoration - a magnificent building located in the center of Geneva. Accuracy of the "mechanism" sets the main principle of the collection - the story of Patek Philippe watches through the prism of history.

Collection of the Museum of Hours in Geneva

In the collection of this museum you can find absolutely different hours. In this case, each copy here is important and loved. Antique clock, celebrity clock, gold, desktop and pocket, watches of Leo Tolstoy and Richard Wagner, Peter Tchaikovsky and Queen Victoria.

On the first floor of the Museum of the Clock you will enter the world of production, full of mysterious oak tables and various tools, with the help of which the first European watchmakers worked.

On the second floor there is an exposition of the mechanisms of 1540-1560. Here you will see round boxes until only one hour hand. Then there are watches, decorated with enamel miniatures. So the clock becomes small pictures, performances depicting the life of goddesses, cupids and other characters. Gradually, a simple clock with a painting is replaced by a clock in the form of any objects, for example, telescopes or musical instruments, in which moving figures are hidden.

The third floor introduces you to the world of Patek Philippe watches. Here you can see all the ever-existing collections of the house from models of full restraint to the most luxurious watches.

One of the main highlights of the collection is the very first copy of the watch Patek Philippe, released by the company in 1868. Along with him and the rest of the exhibits, there is one of the most sophisticated chronographs in the world, released to the 150th anniversary of the company, a watch called Caliber 89. Just imagine, this mechanism consists of 1728 parts!

All the exhibits of the Museum of the Clock will be described to you in detail by guides and audiovisual installations. Excursions in Switzerland are conducted in English and French. And additional information you can get in the library, which stores books on the history of watches. It is located in the museum building.
