Palace of Kinsky


The Palace of Kinsky - an architectural monument in the Rococo style, located in the center of the city - on the Old Town Square. At the moment it is part of the National Gallery .

A bit of history

The palace of Golts-Kinskikh was built in Prague in 1755-1765 for Jan Arnost Goltz. The authorship of the project has not yet been established: it is attributed to either the architect Anselmo Lugaro or KI. Dinzehoferu. The owner of the castle died shortly, and in 1768 the building was acquired by Count František Oldřich Kinský.

In 1843 it was in the walls of the Kinský Palace in Prague that the first Nobel Peace Prize winner, Bertha Suttner-Kinskaya, was born.

From 1893 to 1901, Franz Kafka visited the German grammar school, which at that time was located on the third floor of the palace. On the first floor his father kept a dry goods store.

From 1995 to 2000, there was a colossal work on the reconstruction of the palace.

What to see?

The Palace of Kinskys is one of the six buildings included in the National Gallery. It has both permanent exhibitions of medieval, modern and modern art, and temporary. For example, in the Palace of Kinsky you can see an exhibition called The Art of Asia. Thirteen and a half thousand exhibits from Japan , China, Korea , Tibet, etc. are presented on it.

How to get there?

The Palace of Kinski is located in the very center of Prague , and it is convenient to get to it from any district. The trams that follow the routes Nos. 8, 14, 26, 91 will suit you. You have to leave at the Dlouhá třída stop.
