Wooden shelf with own hands

Cloakroom today is no longer a privilege of the rich, not a tribute to fashion, but a very convenient and practical room in which things are mostly located on the shelves. You can buy a cloakroom to order, and you can make shelves for it yourself. Let's find out how.

How to make a shelf of wood with your own hands?

For the production of shelves wood of pine or spruce is best suited. The boards can be of any size, planed or non-planed. The only condition is that they should be well dried.

For work we will need such tools:

  1. First of all, it is necessary to mark the boards according to the required dimensions with a pencil and ruler.
  2. Lay the boards on a flat surface and cut out the necessary details from them along the lines that were outlined earlier.
  3. If it is necessary to cut out curly elements, it is better to use an electric jigsaw.
  4. Scratch all the details first rough, and then fine sandpaper. If you used a non-planed board to make a shelf, cut all the knots from the blanks and carefully sand the whole surface with sandpaper. All available grooves and irregularities are covered with putty.
  5. We cover all details with varnish. After it is completely dry, we apply another layer of varnish and let it dry completely.
  6. We mark the place of fastening of shelves in the dressing room.
  7. At the fastening points we drill holes.
  8. If you mount a shelf made by hand from wood, directly to the wall, then for fixing we use dowels and screws. We cover their caps with putty. We fix the furniture corners.
  9. Shelves for the dressing room, made by own hands, are ready.
