The refrigerator is a kind of household appliances, which in the modern world is present in every house without exception. There are several types of refrigerators, which differ from each other according to the principle of the operation of refrigerating machines. One of these types of devices is the absorption refrigerator, which has its advantages and disadvantages in comparison, for example, with the compression, more familiar to us refrigeration unit. Let's take a closer look at the functional characteristics of the absorption refrigerator, and also on the principle of its operation.

How does the absorption refrigerator work?

Based on the name it becomes clear that the operation of the absorption type refrigerators is based on the physical and chemical absorption process. Thus, by dissolving in a liquid, usually in water, a coolant, which is usually ammonia, its circulation occurs. A saturated aqueous solution of ammonia from the absorber first enters the generator and then into a reflux condenser where partial condensation of concentrated vapors occurs, as a result of which ammonia is separated from water. Further, the most concentrated ammonia vapor enters the condenser, where it is compressed and returned to the evaporator, and the water purified from ammonia is supplied by the absorber. Under the action of a constant power source, the circulation of the solution and ammonia occurs continuously.

Depending on the power source, absorption refrigerators are divided into gas, electric and combined.

Pros and cons of absorption refrigerators

The main feature of these refrigerators is that the absence of moving mechanical elements makes the operation of the device absolutely noiseless and durable enough, besides, as a rule, they are small in size. However, absorption refrigerators have a number of drawbacks. As a result of the fact that the heater is permanently or cyclically connected to the power source, the operation of the absorption-type refrigerators is much more expensive than the compressor ones, which are included in the network periodically. In addition, in such refrigerators the process of cooling and reaching a low temperature proceeds more slowly, and as a result - poor specific indicators of cooling capacity.

As a rule, absorption refrigerators are practically not used for home, however they have reached great popularity among fans of car travel, as well as in offices and hotels.
