Alexanderplatz in Berlin

Speaking about the sights of Berlin, we can not fail to mention Alexanderplatz. This is a large area in the center of the city, which has its entertaining history.

In 1805, Kaiser Wilhelm III had the honor of hosting the Russian monarch Alexander I, and subsequently it was decided to name this square in honor of the distinguished guest.

Today, no one tour of the capital can not do without visiting Alexanderplatz, because there are several interesting tourist sites.

The first thing that draws the tourist's eye is the City Hall building, called the local residents of the Red Town Hall. This ancient building used to be used for city holidays, and now - for the work of the mayor's office and Senate meetings. The City Hall on the Alexanderplatz square is open to all comers.

The television tower of Berlin is another unusual local construction. This unique tower with a height of 368 m was built in 1969. Tourists can climb to its observation deck to appreciate the magnificent views of Berlin and its environs. You can also enjoy German cuisine in an unusual cafe. By the way, you will not see such an institution anywhere else: "Telekafe" revolves around the tower, making a full turn in 30 minutes.

The Alexanderplatz in Berlin is decorated with a picturesque sculptural composition - the Neptune fountain. In the center of it is the sea king himself with his indispensable attribute - the trident. From all sides the fountain was surrounded by mermaids symbolizing the four rivers of Germany - the Rhine, the Elbe, the Whist and the Oder, and numerous sea animals.

The world clock is a landmark of both the square and the whole of Berlin. They were installed here after the fall of the Berlin Wall and symbolize the beginning of a new era for Germany. The symbolic inscription on the watch reads: "Time will destroy all the walls." And this unique mechanism shows the current time in the largest cities of the world.
