Campo de los Alisos


In Argentina , in the province of Tucuman, there is the National Park Campo de los Alisos (in Spanish Parque Nacional Campo de los Alisos).

general information

This is a federal protected area, which includes jungle and mountain forest. The reserve is located in the eastern part of the Nevados del Aconquija mountain in the department of Chicligasta.

The national park of Campo de los Alisos was founded in 1995 and initially had an area of ​​10.7 hectares. In 2014, its territory was expanded, and today it is equal to 17 hectares. The nature here varies with height. The average annual precipitation varies between 100 and 200 mm.

Flora of the reserve

The national park can be divided into three parts:

  1. In the jungle , which are located at the foot of the mountains, plants such as Alnus acuminata, pink tree (Tipuana tipu), Jacaranda mimosifolia, laurel (laurus nobilis), seiba (Chorisia insignis), giant mole (Blepharocalyx gigantea ) and other trees. From the epiphytes, various kinds of orchids grow here.
  2. At a height of 1000 to 1500 m, mountain jungle begins, which are characterized by dense forests. Here you can see walnut (Juglans Australis), Tucuman cedar (Cedrela lilloi), elderberry (Sambucus peruvianus), chalchal (Allophylus edulis), matu (Eugenia pungens).
  3. At an altitude above 1500 m there are mountain forests in which rare species of Podocarpus parlatorei and alder alder (Alnus jorullensis) grow.

Animals of the National Park

From mammals to Campo de los Alisos you can find otter, guanaco, Andean cat, puma, Peruvian deer, dying mountain frog, ocelot and other animals. The reserve covers several natural areas, and for this reason a huge number of birds live here. Some of them live only in the territory of the National Park: Andean condor, plover diadem, torment duck, white heron, guan, parrot Maximilian, blue amazon, common caracara, mitrophoric parrot and other birds.

What is famous for the Campo de los Alisos National Park?

In the reserve, important archaeological sites were discovered-the historical ruins of the city built by the Inca empire and known as Pueblo Viejo or Ciudacita. Once there were the main halls and other buildings. This is one of the most southern buildings of this culture, which is at an altitude of 4400 m above sea level.

The territory of the reserve is also called a zone of increased Andean climate. Here during the year there are heavy snowfalls, therefore tourists are allowed to enter here only with the assistance of an experienced guide.

In the National Park of Campo de los Alisos, local people and tourists like to spend their leisure time. They come here for a whole day to admire the picturesque landscapes, breathe the fresh air, listen to the singing of birds and watch the wild animals. When visiting the protected area, be careful, because in some places the road is narrow and slippery. You can travel by car or by bicycle.

How to get to the reserve?

From the city ​​of Tucuman to the National Park, you can drive by road Nueva RN 38 or RP301. The distance is about 113 km, and the journey time will take about 2 hours.

When going to Campo de los Alisos, wear comfortable sports clothes and shoes, be sure to bring repellents and a camera with you to capture the surrounding nature.
