Jeju Island is a pearl of South Korea , and it can rightly be called another miracle of the world. The main attraction of the island, no doubt, can be called the park of waterfalls Chongjyeon.
The natural oasis of Chongjyeong
The river, which forms waterfalls, flows through a deep gorge. Water dust, flying apart, forms a special microclimate in the gorge: on the one hand - the coolness in the summer heat, on the other - the increased humidity. In this place, tropical plants themselves feel wonderful. Here everything is buried in lush greenery, among which there are very rare plants. Local people say that the river never dries up, as it is guarded by a dragon who regularly prays against drought. Waterfalls Chongjyeon, included in the complex, are an incredibly popular place for tourists.
The Legend of the Waterfalls
Chongjyeon includes 3 waterfalls. With their name, there is a legend about the Heavenly Emperor and the nymphs who served him. Every night the emperor allowed them to swim in these waters. Nude beauties were always accompanied by the music of jade flutes and the glow of stars. This is how the name Chongjeon - the "waterfall of the Heavenly Emperor" came about.
Travel to Cheongjeien
Here you will see a harmonious combination of architecture and untouched nature. The most interesting in Chongchijon:
- The first waterfall is the biggest. He falls beautifully from a cliff into a pond. Nearby there are several places with falling water, which all goes into the ocean. The waterfall is surrounded by rocks and dense thickets of trees, from where a beautiful view of the entire cascade opens.
- The second waterfall. It is located next to the gorge, through which the bridge of Sonimgo is thrown. The latter has a bizarre curved shape and is decorated with images of seven nymphs.
- The third waterfall. It and the road along the coast can be clearly seen from the bridge, if you look towards the sea.
- The Sonimgyo Bridge. It was built for the convenience of visitors. From here you can see the whole nature of Chhondjon. You will see the gorge of the river and a stairway leading to the waterfall, a snake descending downward. Here is a small lake with azure water, surrounded by greenery. When you look at it all, the legend of nymphs does not seem fairy. The beauty of Cheongjieong deserved its legend.
- Alcove. Exiting the gorge, you will see an elegant house, reminiscent of a Buddhist temple . To get there, you need to climb the long stairs. Impressive paintings in the arbor, beautiful paintings detail the story of the Heavenly Emperor.
- Fountain of Five Blessings. It is located near the gazebo and it is not difficult to find it: next to it there are always a lot of tourists. In the center of it are figures of five animals, symbolizing different human goods. Duck gives love, turtle - longevity, pig - wealth, carp blesses on the birth of sons, and the dragon bestows glory. It is necessary to throw a coin into the bowl over the chosen animal, and the desired will come true. All these recommendations are written on the plate under the fountain.
- The Yomiji Botanical Garden is located near the waterfalls of Chongjyeon.
- Transition. Through the river, all visitors can walk along a passage laid out of volcanic stones. In Korea, there is a tradition - on the wedding day the bridegroom is obliged to transfer the bride through such a transition on the back, this promises them great happiness.
